No more log books ?
 

I'm leased on to a company that works the oil fields, 99% of the time I'm within 100 miles of the office.

Its there policy to log but legally i don't need to log and starting Nov 1st i will stop my log books and dicontinue logging. I realize the company i work for may let me go , what if any legal recourse will i have if they do?

Legally you have no recourse if they terminate you because it is their (company) policy and the policy is reasonable and you chose to be insubordinate . :block:

Legal recourse: None. There is nothing in the regs that says you must use a time sheet if you stay within 100 miles. It is only an option, and the option is reserved for the owner of the company to decide to use it or not.

When i drove tankers i had to log. But we stayed within 100miles also. But i think you have to log by law if you work more then 12hr a day.:thumbsup:

I hope your kidding. Why lose a job over a logbook? If it's company policy then you have no case. Period. And Mackman is right, if you work more than 12 hours you're required to log anyway. Even when you're a local driver the company is required to keep track of your hours. Do you punch a time clock? If they want you to keep a logbook there's nothing you can do about it.

I drove a cement truck for a year...Out of Carbondale,Colorado.....We stayed within 100 miles,yet were required to keep logs by company policy......We had sundays off so fell under the 60 hours in 7 days rule,but were told to log under the 70/8 day.....Often as not,they'd keep us out past 14 hours...Even though we never came near to driving 11 hours,they had us driving after 14,and frequently would want us back 7-8 hours after logging off duty....Of course,they'd ask us,on the sly,off the record to "adjust" our logs.....I never did.....I logged as I ran.....I figured if I ever got caught redhanded I'd be in some trouble,but so would they......Plus I figured if they got audited after the fact,it'd be on them and not me.

I never could understand why they'd want to keep what amounts to evidence against them, when it's not required,but they insisted on it........

chances are you work in an "at will" state as most are. A job can let you go for any reason (excluding race, religion etc). Insubordination and not following company policy is not only grounds for termination but also denying a claim for unemployment. BOL to you!

If you don't like the job then why don't you just quit? When you work for a company you follow their rules or leave. I can't believe anyone would set themselves up to lose their job over something so trivial. I think you are pulling our leg. No one would fail to use a log book when the company requires it unless they wanted to lose their job. :roll3:

Why or what reason would i have to be pulling your leg?

At this point i dont care if they let me go! When i hired on this company told me i woul have more hours than i wanted , well that happened one 2 week pay period out of 5 months!

Ive been getting about half the hours i need to justify staying here with this company and ive felt they have kept me in reserve for cement loads that MAY come in because they are short on drivers that can haul cement, so i get no other loads cuz they dont want to get caught with there pants down.

And we have been heariing that there are some guys that have refused to log for 6 months now and havent been terminated.

If you're not happy, put in your notice, work it out and leave on good terms.

It's a whole lot easier to find a new job by doing that way than for getting fired for not following company policy...
