missed it by 2 inches

i'm hauling 60 foot I beams from Texas to Las Vegas on a 48 foot trailer

I am told i dont need a permit in New Mexico if my rear over hang does not exceed 7 feet.

well, i just measured and i am 7 ft 2 inches.

do you think they will notice at the New Mexico port of entry?

anybody ever snuck through with a couple extra inches of overhang?

thanks

Did you measure from the end of the deck or the end of your trailer? I think they measure from the furthest back part of the trailer like a DOT bumper or anything you can find. Could that give you the extra 2" you need?

And yes, they will notice, they always do when you don't want em to.

In NM, it all depends where you enter...the POE right outside of Hobbs...they have a a crazy f'er there! He has tried to pistol whip drivers (I don't know if he is still there...I haven't been through it in a while...I will drive way out of the way to avoid that place).

Good deal. I was going to suggest going in at night but, like marylandkw said, they always notice when you don't want them too.

We used to get heavy from time to time and NM doesn't like that so we'd run some back roads at night when the POE was most likely to be closed.

It's free to register at the POI factory. They have the locations of weigh stations among other things that you can download for your gps if you ever need them. For coops select the POI files tab from main page and scroll down to the transportation category. http://www.poi-factory.com/
