Regional vs OTR
Most companies advertise that they require drivers to have 6-12 months of OTR experience to get hired on. If a driver starts with an OTR company, but drives only on their regional fleet for 12 months, would he have any trouble switching to another company that requires OTR experience?

I would not think so. Some drivers who are considered regional also run long haul part of the time.

Thanks, GMAN. That is my feeling, as well, just wasn't sure if there was an industry standard. I started this topic before I noticed the Definition of OTR??? thread and I was just reading over this issue and everyone else's take on it.

I recently applied, and am getting hired, by a OTR company and they wanted proof that I had driven loads with a minimal distance of 500 miles.
However, I will be working in the South West only at this time, CA, NV and AZ. |

Nope.

Most carriers define OTR as that you actually stay away from home/home terminal. Even regional drivers aren't home daily, so they classify it as OTR.
