NASCAR trailers on I-75 north in Ohio headed to Michigan
I saw one, heard about a few others, they are pretty trucks!!
I saw the "king of spinouts" tractor trailer, #20 Home Depot wed night. NOT A FAN OF HIM AT ALL. I take it the cops dont mess with them, he had to be going 70+ (55 mph for trucks in Ohio) It was just a quick flash. The truck whizzed pass several semis in front of me and was gone.......poooof |
Well, it is a racing truck. Last year I was coming through Bristol when I had 3 or 4 of those trucks blow my windows out. There were bears all over the place and no one seemed to notice either. :?

You mean her IRL car. She will never drive a real F1 car in competition. Those things have more horses than the IRL cars, think IRL on steroids or just a step above the CART one's.
The only time a Nascar hauler seems to get stopped is the middle of the night and yes they do get tickets but it is usually from a cop who isn't a Nascar fan. As you said ohiomohawk, they would draw a large crowd of onlookers if a cop stops them in broad daylight. Cop would then catch some big time flak from racing fans who stop to see what is going on if he tried to write them a ticket. |
|
In my opinion, I think it would be fun to be one of the Driver's that hauls those cars all across the country to different race tracks. I know one of Jimmie Johnson's Pit crew members is one of the truck drivers for his car. I just think it would be fun to drive those rigs........

Ever run into the World Wrestling Federation trucks? They are pretty snappy too.
|
saw one of the Busch car trucks, pulled over in MS getting a high performace award last year on I-20. Guess the MHP wasn't a race fan. I'm still looking for my doors, they got blown off so bad.
|
Saw one of the WWE trucks the other day going up Rt. 17 in VA. Think it may have been a merch. truck though, it was all by it's lonesome self. Normally the show trucks run together in a group of at least 4-5.

Has anyone seen that Werner truck which the ridiculously long nose, and 'V16 Detroit' painted on the side of it? It's a Classic, in typical Werner blue, but obviously not an everyday company truck. I've been told it's used to haul a dragster for some Werner racing team, yet I seem to recall that the trailer it pulled seemed rather high off the ground for something of that sort?
|
seen it, marine V16 18sp yes it has their dragster in it LAST years model, they use it for promo stuff, hat's and t-shirts
their driver said it cost like $300k to make, they used a cement mixer frame (only one that wouldn't twist with that V16) they also made the sleeper longer because it looked funny with that long a$$ hood. driver said ON PAPER it should do about 155mph...! he said he's never had it over 95. if i can find the pic when we get back to our truck (it's in volvo again) i will post it if you ever hear it you will never forget that sound, more like an indy car than a truck |
Only super cool people get to haul those cars....
...I actually have an F1 in my trailer as I speak. No joke. Pics to come after I unload it. Like I said, only SUPER cool people  |
It's like anything else in NASCAR. You have to know someone to get your foot in the door.
In my personal opinion that's what's wrong with NASCAR today. They have got to start looking outside their inbred families and look for new talent in a parts of their operation. I tried to get a job as a hauler driver a few years ago with no luck. I guarantee you there aren't many drivers with my safety record and years behind the wheel, as well as knowledge of racing that I have. I used to race and build cars. But because I wasn't related to someone or have the last name Petty, or Earnhardt I wasn't given the time of day. |
There was a lady recruiting drivers (o/o's) a while back. She was from kalamazoo, MI. Its salaried (for the o/o compensation wise) and requires a lot of being on time for test and tunes, appearances, and of course, races.

That is so BS dollar. Dad had a couple of shots with Nascar but chose not to move to Charlotte or Hueytown. The Allisons wanted him to start building their engine's full time after Bobby and my grandfather swapped cars one day. They shared all kinds of tips with one another, Bobby shared a setup that was banned at Grand National events but still legal at local tracks not hosting a Grand National event that night or day. Dad also had a chance with Denny Hamlin's current spotter, Curtis Markham when he made it to the Busch level. Worked with Earnhardt's pit crew one night at I believe Southside Speedway in VA. Childress wanted to get them some practice in before the race the next day at the Richmond Fairgrounds so they asked my grandfather if they could pit the car that night. Couple of the crew asked my dad if he wanted a job with them in the big leagues, they would put in a good word with Richard but he would have to move to NC. Also had the chance to go with what is today, Racing Electronics doing team radios at the track each week. Dad didn't want to move and didn't want to be gone from home so much so he chose not to take any of the offers. He was building engine's that would rival Junior Johnson one's. Bobby could not believe how strong the engine's were when he drove the car and he used to drive Junior Johnson engine's.
If you've got the skills, they will find you. Buddy from High School is the tire specialist on David Ragan's Cup car. He knew nothing of Nascar in High School, could have cared less. Now he's making $80K a year to look at tires as they come off the car. |
Gentlemen, allow Belpre to present a couple of pics of a truck with REAL race cars!!!
Go open wheel dirt! Forget about those tricked out taxi cabs! Ernie Earnhardt, Ernie Gordon, Ernie Martin, Ernie Busch! Shut that Sunday snoozefest crap off and go see a real race!! http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/l...1219375857.jpg http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/l...1219375831.jpg |

I hear Teresa's looking for a new husband and driver at DEI.... and she ain't too particular about looks! (She married Dale, didn't she?) Maybe, you should ask her out! Wow, I posted this and it disappeared! Now the board is running slow for me, too! If this double posts..... it is NOT MY FAULT! signed: Last Word Larry! |
Dirt racing is fine but there ain't no money in it right now. Maybe in 10-15 years it will be where Nascar currently is. I'd like to see Nascar drop a couple of the cookie-cutter tracks and run 2-3 races a year on dirt. Do the Super Late Model's like they run for Tony's Charity Event at Eldora every year. Make 1 of the races a Chase race and put in a Road Course and you have the works over the final 10 races. 1 Dirt, 1 Road Course, 1 Short Track, 3 1 Mile Tracks of varying corners(steep at Dover, flat at Loudon and halfway in-between both at Homestead) 1 1.5 Mile Track, 1 2 mile Track and 1 Restrictor Plate Track and Phoenix's odd shaped track.
|
hey for a road course go one better have a dirt road course
but to get back to the origional topic if i was a dot officer and i saw like jeff gordon or jimmy johnsons haulers comming down the road id let them get up to the scale then flip the sign to closed and of course inspect every inch of both trucks go over the paperwork with a fine tooth comb hehe  |

I was running with a couple of them a few months ago through the gorge and on into Knoxville, TN. Yes..... I could keep up, I had a fast truck. As I literally spent a few hours "with" them along the road, I got to hear the CB conversations. Two things stuck in my mind. First, they mentioned how, with the expanded schedule, they were OTR almost ALL the time! Rarely got a few days off to spend with their families. The trucks (and the cars) don't come home to NC every week! The DRIVERS of the cars do..... but not the "equipment." When they DO get home, it is usually only an overnighter, then BACK on the road again. The other thing was this. There are obviously alot of truckers out there that are race fans. And CB's often only project a few miles (especially in the mountains.) So...... every few minutes, another eastbound trucker came into range, or passed by them, and they ALL had the same question! "Hey, where you guys heading this week?" "Sonoma" was the answer. Over and over and over and well..... you get the picture! How would you like to drive from NC to CA and every 5 mins have to answer the SAME question over the CB?? We're going to Sonoma! (read your friggin schedule, driver!) "Good luck!" "Yeah, thanks!" "Where y'all heading?" "Sonoma." "Good luck!" "Yeah, thanks!" "Where.... SONOMA!..... and thanks!" "Okay, good luck!" "Hey, Johnny..... let's pull off here at the hook! I need a break!" NO DOUBT!  So.... next time y'all SEE one of these trucks, ask the driver something about HIM, or his family! It'll go along way towards making their trip easier! In fact, keep him on the "air" as long as you can, with ANY discussion you can strike up. But, PLEASE..... read your schedule, and don't ask him where's he's going! [Oh, and..... dirt track SUX! Nascar RULES!]   |
I'm with Hobo NASCAR is better but I also like to watch the dirt racers especially Eldora.

Speaking of dirt heaven, Eldora. It truly doesn't get any better than that! I was fortunate, in that my father and Larry Dickson were lifelong friends and Larry lived right up the river in Marietta, Oh. I got spoiled pretty early on Eldora, as I sometimes got to go to Eldora with the reigning USAC National Sprint Car champion and hobo around all Sunday and get to skip school on Monday. Same kind of stuff when Larry ran the Indy 500 in the late 70s, early 80s. It can only go downhill from there!! How I somehow ended up living in Indianapolis and driving a fuel tanker that is virtually parked in the shadows of the Turn 2 bleachers at IMS is purely coincidental and definitely a story for another day. Here are a couple of links; http://www.fortunecity.com/silversto...ldickson2.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Dickson Go Dirt!! |
Nascar's idea of variety is throwing in a right turn.....
|
Hey golfhobo, I hear ya, I can definitely imagine how irritating it must get for those drivers getting asked over and over the same question. Yeah those guys do spend alot of time on the road but, they do actually go back to there home and pick up the cars for the next week and then head out, so yes they are never home.
|
I unloaded my F1 racer yesterday morning...pics to come soon. Evenb though it was a van line order, the broker was still calling me everyday to see where I was (for the last week and 1/2!).
|
they can now be found in fontana, california. i got the hell outta there today. the billy-bob & billy big rig convention is in full swing at the truck stop across the street from schneider's terminal.

Several or many years ago now prior to Dale Earnhardt's death, I saw his truck and another race up I 85 through SC. Mile down the road they were sitting on the side of the road receiving their winnings from the SCHP.
Another time I was at the Weight Station on I 95 south of Savannah waiting to get a tire repaired, and all the haulers was getting pulled around back so the DOT could get their nascar goodies. |
don't worry pre, i'm now safely north of the redneck convention.....but in one of the most boring states of all. gawd, i hate utah! even more so, i haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate round-a-bouts! they make me want to punch a baby.
