Accident affecting job prospects?
I had a rollover accident in a small commercial vehicle in September of 2005, no one was injured and I was the only vehicle involved. Two years later in 2007 I received my class a license. Now I am applying for different companies, they don't seem too keen on hiring me. What is the likely hood that this is in large part due to the accident and also how long will it take for the accident to no longer affect me?
thanks a lot! |

usually you are looking at 3 years in a non-commercial vehicle and a little longer for a commercial. I would try USA truck. they seem to hire everyone, i know a gal that got a job while on probation. right now isn't the best time for finding jobs. it isn';t hard for a guy with a good record but freight is still down so companies can be a little picky. you got your lisence awhile ago so you have been out of a class-A for awhile and that will hurt you. I would think about going for a 4 week cdl-a course again then you might have a chance. I would talk to the recruiters and ask them what you have to do to be considered.

That's tough. I've recently discovered that two "incidents" I had were reported as "preventables". I'd applied with CFI, but there those accidents were. Can we say "No, thanks?"
Do ALL accidents require that 3-year healing period??? I've only been driving a year, so I can't afford a 3-year hiatus!! (Especially since I've acquired quite a liking for eating and living inside.) 8) Are all of us who have "incidents/accidents" looking at having to hire on with the questionable companies---just to enter or stay in the game??? Who was at fault?
Some applications are rejected because the "bad news" block a recruiter would prefer to see empty has been filled in. If they're sorting through a big stack of apps, the bad news apps would be easy to reject. |
In my case, both were my fault. I "peeled" a telephone pole on a tight turn (no citation issued), and I dropped a trailer on my frame/wheels. Again, no citation (private property), and I was able to take that trailer and load on to delivery. I didn't even think they reported it!! I never heard anything more about either of them, since no insurance claims were made.
TMI, I know. I feel for you, FMSAS. A few years ago, trucking sounded like the solution to many new drivers' problems. Seems things have really tightened up---and a few of us newbies have gotten tangled in the knot! Jewels |
Lesson: if you have an incident with your company, even if your not at fault, no damage is involved and its not reportable, ask your safety department if they put it on your record or sent it along to DAT. If you drop your trailer on the nose and can find a forklift to pick it up for you and the trailer isnt damaged, if you back into a pole without damageing anything but a tail-light, hit someone in a truckstop and damage their mirror, take care of it yourself and dont report it.

I do not know your situation, or what, when, where, or why it happened, but I'd be that's what is causing you problems... |
