TWIC cards

I applied on line to enroll and make an appointment back in May. The office in Jacksonville is easy to find and was on time for the appointment. After they notified me to pick up my card, I made another appointment on line for 07/09 and showed up 45 minutes early just to be sure. It's a good thing I did. Plus I had the pleasure of speaking with the staff for quite a while. I asked if anyone could call ahead, they said they don't answer in coming calls. Glad I learned the govt smile in the Navy so I got my card at 11:55 and was on my way.

TWIC - https://twicprogram.tsa.dhs.gov/TWICWebApp/
centers are staffed by a temp agency and they can change the rules...

1. They no longer honor the on line appointments in Jax.

2. The office is now closed on Mons,Fridays and for lunch Tues-Wens-Thurs from noon to 1pm. (where can I apply?) There were applicants coming in at 11am and the staff (in between smoke breaks) knew they would not be able to get them in until after lunch but said nothing to anyone. And don't forget your money order or plastic...because they don't take cash or checks.

Fee is $132.50 for the card and $60.00 if you lose your card.

3. So if your going to a TWIC office you might want to show up at 0745. They open at 8am, close at 4pm, are now first come, first serve in Jacksonville Fl. Hope your local TWIC isn't run by the same temp agency.

The point is to plan ahead in order to get your TWIC if YOU need one. What's so hard about filtering emotionless info in a public forum? If it doesn't apply to your current job or situatiuon, just disregard the post and move on.

As a perspective Fuel hauler a TWIC Card allows for access to the ports, I think by the end of the year any driver who will need to drive into a port area must have a TWIC card, another way for the Government to make sure you are who you say you are.
My question to you Kurbski is that you say you live at I-4 & I-95 (Daytona) so why not use Port Canaveral office instead of Jasksonville? that has to be the closest office to you unless you are more north St augustine area?
As far as posting useless info on this board you may consider it useless but others like to read and learn I would hate to have you for a trainer... I always told my employees the only stupid question there is is the one you do not ask....

It doesn't matter what your opinion really is because you don't know me, have never been trained by me and my reply was to Rokk and not you. Rokk never asked a question, only made a statement. So I replied in the same manner then made an edit to include a link to twic.

But to answer your question, I like Jax better than Canaveral for several different reasons. Good luck with your fuel hauling endeavors and back pain at UPS. Dock work and seniority are tough no doubt.

More and more of the places I frequent in the petrochemical industry are starting to require a TWIC regardless of their proximity to ports.

I think it is all a crock of $#!+ doing nothing for security. $132.50 for a glorified ID card. There are no TWIC readers, no framework for standardization thereof, and no timetable for anything. My haz-mat endorsement meant I didn't have to have the threat assessment.

Tell me again- why do I need this bull$#!+?

"The Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) is a vital security measure that will ensure individuals who pose a threat do not gain unescorted access to secure areas of the nation's maritime transportation system."

Oh. I see. A plastic card in my wallet stops the terrorists.

Did I call bull$#!+ already?
