Van vs reefer weight
:D Anybody know how much more a 53' reefer with its insulation and refrigeration unit weighs than a 53' van? 8)

I'm pretty sure it's about 1,000 lbs difference with a average 50 gallon fuel tank on the trailer. A 45,000 lb load is about what I can handle at the most. I could maybe take a little more if I got some of my junk out of here ! 8) 8)

Kinda depends on the construction of each. Could be as little as 500 lbs difference or as much as 2-3000 lbs if not more. On average I would say you were looking at somewhere around 1000-1500 lbs.

TK...you must have one heavy truck!
Back when I pulled freightbox, I scaled at 32,000 with an empty trailer and full tanks...I could pull real close to 48k legally.....with a dry van |

Nope, '07 Freightliner columbia, with a Detroit and a 70" mid roof sleeper.....not quite the lightest thing out there...... 8)

TK, even with my 2006 Freightliner, all I can carry is a hair under 46,000.

real good answer there. yep, I was never able to get much over 45500 at JBHunt(with a cab over international) dry van, or container, or at Westside transport- century & columbia with sliding 5th wheel, at Polar Express with a T800 & pallet racks under the 53-- 42,800. at Asche with a 379 pete & 53 reefer-- you never wanted to hit 45,000 at all-- 43,000 in the box put you max gross. and here at Shaffer- I get scared/nervous at 44,000. |
I can haul 45k with my '02 Volvo 770. I thought those were supposed to be heavy trucks.

I come in at 32200 lbs with a 2001 Classic XL and 97 Utility 53' Dry Van trailer.
