Anybody in the Dallas/Fort worth area knows a good accou ...

Anybody in the Dallas/Fort worth area knows a good accountant that specializes in trucking businesses (Owner/Operators)?

Thanks in advance!

Whatever you do, avoid ATBS like the plague.

I just used HR Block of all places, it was spendy ($600) but I'm getting close to 5k back and they caught a lot of errors that my other accountant last year had missed. And yes, this was using them for my business. Find someone in a branch office that specializes in small business if you go with them, you can read the employees bios on their website.

What's so bad about them? I have no plan what so ever of ever owning my own truck but that's probably why I think they sound good for an owner op... Just listening to kevin on xm they seem like they are are the "truckers side"

The so called ATBS " Consultants " are nearly impossible to get ahold of, and usually do not have any answers to even the simplest of questions... I used them 2 years ago and it was a waste of money....

Agreed. The common complaints about them are:

- Their "advisors" are never available, and never return calls.

- Their profit/loss statements are almost always incorrect (About halfway through last year, my P/L statement from them said I had spent a grand total of about $3000 on fuel for the entire year!),

- They don't send out P/L statements which are something that is being paid for,

- They have recently been late on tax returns (I've heard about several people who are going to have to file extensions because ATBS won't have their taxes done on time)

- The quarterly taxes that they calculate are incorrect (they had me owing over $5000 during the third quarter of last year, mainly because they weren't entering in any of my expenses)

-They commonly miss things on tax returns - last year, they missed about $10,000 worth of paid claims on my tax return, and miscalculated my truck depreciation.

Kevin Rutherford promotes them because he sold his business (The Alliance) to them about 2 years ago. Take what Kevin Rutherford says with a grain of salt. He also promotes the Turbo 3000 Vada, which has been consistently been proven to be useless. He's a shill for the highest advertising dollar. I pity anyone who continues to use them.
