fresh outta school flatbedding, i expect to make 45-50 my first year.
i work for a company that pays well and keeps you working.
this is a hard company to ge into as a newbie unless you know someone.
i was lucky.

I pull tanker 5 days a week home every weekend. grossed $61000.00 last year. I have more years of experience than I care to remember though

Fresh outa school, I made 57K the first year, 59K the second. I won't be able to make much more than that.

I'm home every weekend, about once or twice a week in addition to that, and I work real, real, hard while I'm gone. I handle freight (gasp) and even enjoy it.

Our company does not have any openings at this time. In fact we have applicants lined up.

I think you may have hit on something with the hard work. There are too many drivers who want the big paycheck but don't feel that they should put forth the effort to earn it. I met someone a few years ago who wanted a big paycheck. He had no experience, no education and wanted a company to give him a big paycheck. He wasn't willing to prove his worth. This business is one of the few that pays on productivity. Whether you work on percentage or mileage, you will make what you are worth. If you are paid mileage the more miles you turn the bigger the paycheck. The same can be said on percentage except that the paychecks tend to be bigger. You still need to turn the miles and get the load off to make money.

Not with the setup I'm on, but yes salary could easily suck.

I'm on a program which allows me to both collect my salary from the company, as well as my veteran's education benefits from the government...which works well for both me and the company...

They pay me a bit less than if I were paid by the mile, but the extra I get from the VA means I earn quite a bit more than I would if I were just paid by the mile....
