How long is too long?
 

I am new to this forum and this is the first message I've posted...I was prehired by an OTR company 6 weeks ago...finished school and have had my CDL license for 2 weeks....how long do I sit and wait before I start looking at other companies????? My recruiter has been telling me that they are waiting for trainers..any response would be appreciated!!!!

It's a really good company, but I don't want to have to take a refresher course if I wait too long, and I researched long and hard before I chose this company...I was prehired within a few days of submitting my app...my recruiter says I'm at the top of the hire list and the cancellation list...just waiting for that phone call....

Which company is it?

Don't sit and wait too long......oh you already have, haven't you? I would start looking for something else, like Monday morning.

It's Maverick....I really want to drive a flatbed and want to start out with a good company

Its a secret.... :? Could it be "CRE".....no wait, they'll put two trainees on a truck with a trainer...right?

OK, so its Maverick.....good company for all I know. But what you need to do is "politely", and I do mean "politely" ask the recruiter "how many weeks do you expect we to go without an income".

Here's where the problem lies: They are seeming to Pre-hire more students than they have trainers for. Not good. They should have a better handle on their hiring and needs. They should be better able to program you into their system.

When should you start reviewing your options? Before your wife or creditors beat you in the head with a shovel....or when you have decided to not be someones junior lackey and wait patiently like a dog about to be tossed a biscuit.

Its reality...because its YOUR wallet thats being impacted, not theirs.

there are other companies that hire students on flatbed, maybe not as good as maverick on some levels and maybe better than Maverick on other levels. Ive never worked for maverick but I have heard good things. I really cant speak for which companies that do hire students for flats but have you tried swift, tmc, melton? just a few companies Ive heard good things about or have known drivers who were incredibly happy there. whether they take students or not is unkown to me. But check around and you may find another you like better. It never hurts to call around and check. i know I couldnt handle waiting that long to go to a company just waiting on a trainer. Thanks for your input....will call Monday and try to get a definite date..if not...any suggestions for good OTR companies????

if they cant schedule students and trainers correctly, how will they be about scheduling your work? also, if they dont care that you are sitting home with no income now, will they care if you make any money when you get started?
seems to me they really dont care about you one way or the other.

I went thru all the postings on this forum relating to Maverick,and the concensus is they keep their word..when they say 3 to 4 weeks, that's what it will be.....I was concerned about having to take a refresher course if Maverick took to long....how long out of school without getting a job would a person have to take a refresher course...or is a newbie turned down for jobs if out of school too long before getting his first job???

I drove for maverick at one time but I drive local now. Seems like there were TMC and SMX trucks just about everywhere I picked up and delivered. I know you can get on with TMC and SMX much faster than you can maverick.

I would start looking now. Then after you get a couple of Pre-Hires then call the company and push. But, that's me.

Falcon Transport is in Michigan. They are a pretty good flatbed company and they will get you home on the weekends. If you run the weekends you get extra "cash" pay, plus your %, plus you can stay at motels, and you get earned time off.
