24 on 22?

Tech question, of a sort:
You got 24" tires on your tractor. The trailers you hook to are all 22", all air ride. The tractor I drive now is 22" - and I notice that loaded or empty, the Airbags/ Unit and Trailer/ are almost always at Full Height....
What's the trailer w/22's gonna do if I hook to it with a tractor running 24's?
Explode the bags? :?
Would you need to adjust the Ride Height on the tractor to compensate?
Right now, it's all Company Equipment - and I'm not about to jack around with the Ride Height Sensors/ valves even though I think that "Full Out" setup they have now is wrong. :? Or is it?
Full bags all the time is a rough ridin' sumbuck, loaded or empty..

You may have to crank up the front of the trailer to get under it. Maybe not. I had 22's and the company I was leased onto had 24 on everything. Other than doing a lot of cranking down, I didn't have any trouble.

That's the only thing I ever had to do, just take a moment and see which size of wheels before you go to back under it ... :wink:

My tractor has 24.5 low pros, the company I am leased to has 22.5 low pros on their trailers. Never had a problem before.

In reality there is only a slight height difference.

Fixed the tire & rim sizes in your post, and no there won't be a problem.

My company has several trailers with 22's, usually the 14 high vans. All the tractors have 24's - Volvos or Freightliners. There in lies the problem with different hooking height. The two different makes of tractors sit just a little different at the 5th wheel. As for your airbags at full inflation, they should be. It's just when you load them down, they should automatically increase pressure to maintain the same ride height. Hope that helped.

That's one of the reasons your 5th wheel pivots up and down - to compensate for different ride height.

Messing with ride height throws off drive line angles which can destroy a transmission in a hurry.

Yes it does, and it can also take out the bearings in the rear ends too. There's no need to mess with the ride height just because the tractor is on 22.5's and the trailer is on 24.5's or vice versa.
