Training

Had a couple questions regarding this training\orientation. I was told I could come to training at a company in about 3 weeks. I have a CDL and my DOT physical medical papers already. Now, will this be orientation or will I go stright with the trainer? The recuiter didn't say it would be orientation, she said training. Is it common or do newbies always go to orientation first?.

Probably ought to ask your contact at the company. You're going to spend at least a day or three doing paperwork and mandatory training (sexual harassment and whatever else is vogue these days). FWIW, I don't know for sure, but I've been reading here a lot:)

Where did you wind up? I seem to remember you posting in some other threads that you had some issues (legal?) from the past that made it hard for you to find a company.

You can expect to spend at least 2-3 days in orientation and then go out with a trainer. Companies can not allow you behind the wheel, except for a road test, until they have a clear drug test back on each applicant/new hire.

After you complete training you will either just test out and get assigned your own truck or test out, go through a bit more orientation and then get your own truck. It just depends on the company.

During orientation you should expect to: (typical with any company)

Take a physical
Take a drug test
Fill out a new application
Fill out a ton of other paper work
Watch several safety videos
Take some safety exams
Fill out more paperwork
And do a lot of hurry up and wait. :P

Well where I ended-up is not of major importance. I haven't sealed the deal yet. I still don't know if I'll make it through this orientation or training whatever. Thats why I posted that post. I have a decent job already. I don't want to quit incase I didn't make the orientation. I guess I will have to get back with my recuiter to get some final answers. They just threw me off with the,"We wanted to invite you to come to training". Thought orientation had to come first.Guess we'll see. Just learned something tonite though, I didn't know we would have to find your own way home if we didn't make the cut. Then they say they want people to quit their jobs befor coming to orientation. Yea right.

Thank You U turn. Now I didn't fill out an online app. I mailed mine in along with my final grades, and DOT Physical papers. My main conconcern was when these recuiters do call and tell these new potential hires they can come in but, it will be a few weeks. Is this true, or are they just checking everything out first? As some of you may know I did have some issues in the past. Thats why I not sure if I'll even make it through the process. I'm not worried about the driving, map reading, log books or any of the technical stuff. I just need to get in to prove my ambition, and abilities.

They are checking things out. I know for sure that Crete is calling all employers I have listed for the last five years.

O.K So if the recuiter dosen't get back with you it would be a no-go perhaps, right? Then I would assume it they did get back with you ever thing was cool.

Oh, if the recruiter doesn't get back in touch with me, he gets a call from me. I had two employers who screwed up on my employment verification. My recruiter was decent and contacted me. But let's say you are with a recruiter who has a ton of applicants; maybe he'll move the 'hard' application to the bottom. Calling gets it moved back to the top.

So I'd say call back. Get your papers to the top of the stack.
