Say.....what if you're about to get discharged from the NAVY for alcohol abuse and you hadn't had any alcohol related traffic incidences.........say, what if you were to go to SARP willingly because you can admit, that you have a problem........would anyone hire you for trucking with an Admin Separation for alcohol?

Doubtful. You'll have a dishonorable discharge and companies are required to have your DD214 on file. That's a tough one to sell. Good luck.

A person is physically qualified to drive a commercial motor vehicle if that person:

Has no current clinical diagnosis of alcoholism.

The term "current clinical diagnosis" is specifically designed to encompass a current alcoholic illness or those instances where the individual's physical condition has not fully stabilized, regardless of the time element. If an individual shows signs of having an alcohol-use problem, he or she should be referred to a specialist. After counseling and/or treatment, he or she may be considered for certification.

I'm not getting a dishonorable, it's admin sep. Now if I would have done some crazy stuff like.......DUI's.....or get in bar fights or something like that, then that would be a cause for dishonorable. Not for coming forward with a problem and being treated. That's admin sep and a, "Have a fine Navy day." Thank you for posting up that article for me. That provides me some hope. Trucking is the only other job I've ever really had a heart in. As a Navy Corpsman, everyone is always pushing to be a Nurse or med school when all I really want to do, is drive a truck. Thanks

So you're a professional boozer and want to drive professionally? When is the punchline? This is an obvious joke right?

Get your life in order first. Deal with the alcohol problem as well as all of the issues that have led to the abuse. When that all is taken care of then maybe start thinking about driving.

If you have not fully dealt with these issues the lifestyle and the stresses of the job is very likely to lead you back into a bottle.

Fozzy ...The definition of "professional" means that person gets "PAID" to perform the activity ...I don't think he was paid :wink: , So I don't think he's a professional boozer ...otherwise he wouldn't be looking for a job to pay the bills :wink:

I know how rough alcholism can be. It runs in my family and I know first hand how hard your fight will be. I really think you need to fight that demon and then put your life together. You are in for a lifetime of struggle..alcholism does not ever go away BUT you can fight it day by day.

The discharge doesn't specify what it was for, only a code as to whether you can come back in or not. Yours will be coded for unsuitability or medical depending on who makes the determination. The trucking companies know the difference between an admin and an honorable and will definitely ask about it. If you lie you will be fired as soon as you are found out and the odds are good that you will be found out.

Like others have said, get your life together first. Take the treatment seriously and even go all out and see if they'll let you stay in to complete your enlistment. An honorable discharge ain't worth much but it's sure as hell better than an admin separation.

Driving a truck is serious business and you'll be on the same roads I'm on, don't risk my life!!
