Would it be really hard to get CDL and job with 2 old OWI's (02 & 03) and owing 12k in child support?

With many companies, yes.

In a word yes.

The child support is not really an issue. It is the OWI's. One is bad enough, two makes it next to impossible, and that is if both are over 10 years old.

Some carriers will let one slide as long as it is at least 5 years old. The second is the one that will give you the most problem. Try the company listings on this forum. Most of the larger carriers are listed and has their basic requirements. The best thing to do is start calling carriers. If you plan on paying for your own schooling, I would wait until I go the thumbs up from at least one carrier before hand. Most insurance companies and carriers only go back 3 years on the mvr. However, if they run a criminal background check then you will be sunk when these pop up. I would call carriers and be truthful with them. You may find someone who will give you a chance. OWI and related drug and/or alcohol convictions are especially difficult for carriers. Some will only allow you once conviction. There are others that will not hire anyone with even a single conviction. Your best bet is to talk with carriers direct. There are a few recruiters on this forum.

"owing $12k in child support?" Some states will suspend your license if you're not paying or at least making and effort to pay. You don't say what your 20 is. Let the clock run a bit more so at least one DWI drops off your record, and while you're waiting, get busy catching up on the child support. BOL

You know, I could be wrong here, but, there sure is alot of "new" members, with 1 post, with some very obsurd personnel issues looking for a company that may hire them. I dont know, am I wrong in assuming this or do we just get alot of trolls.

The OWI's actually happened in 2000 and 2001 but the cases weren't closed until after all the court stuff happened. They are both 1st offense also.

The state where the CDL would be obtained allows it after 3 years. It has been 3 years and there is just a regular license, no CDL. Couldn't even be hired as a co-driver with someone who is already doing it?

It doesn't matter if you can get a CDL. What matters is that no carriers' insurance company in their right mind is going to put you behind the wheel of a truck.

Same way people with DUI's get charged with traffic incidents instead of drunk driving...plea bargains and legal maneuvering.
Since one case was still pending and not resolved when the second incident occurred, can't convict someone of a second offense when the first offense isn't yet resolved and convicted.

Just wondering if there was a chance to get hired as a second/co with the same scenario.
Actually surprised that child support wouldn't matter since license can be suspended just owing 3 months support in most states. I would think employers would be weary of that.
