Uh...I don't think so...

All,

Let me start by stating that I am not a driver (yet). Like many others, I have been lurking here for a few months now, and trying to decide if its something I want to pursue. I think I would personally love the job, but I have obligations and commitments that might not mesh with the lifestyle and schedule it all entails. I'm still trying to figure it all out. More about that later...

That said, I want to pass on something that scared the sh!t out of me today. Last weekend, I sent an email to a local (and I think a big name) CDL school inquiring about their rates and schedules for attending school and getting my CDL. I won't mention their name here (yet). I got an email back that included an Excel spreadsheet that included peoples' SS numbers and what they are paying to attend the school. I'd like to think it was an internal report that wasn't meant for public distribution. Or was it??? Either way, I deleted the sh!t out of it. I don't want to have other people's SS numbers in my inbox. I hope I rec'd it in error, but for that to leak out is an immediate red flag regarding this school.

I hope this was an aberration and not commonplace, but wow - that was a little scary. It wasn't what I expected when sending a request for information to what I thought was one of the most respected schools out there. Maybe I should listen to my neighbor and get my CDL on my own, save lots of $$ and see what happens. (He's a semi-retired driver and has lots of contacts).

Either way, I won't be attending that school anytime soon.....

Has anyone else had a bizarre experience like this???

All replies are appreciated. Thanks.

Dang- that is scary. doesn't matter what school it was- good for you in being honest tho; did you tell them about it?

Please do list the name of the school and DO CONTACT THE SCHOOL and let them know what happened. This may be something that they are unaware of and it needs to be stopped.

Yup, Gotta call em and let em know. If my name was on that list I would freaking out.

As far as schooling. Pay cash if you can. Forget all the other hype and BS. Pay cash and make your own decisions and dont be tied down to a company. If anything happens you owe you owe!!!

I did email them back and told them about it. I have some background in higher education and am familiar with the liability that comes with letting student's SS numbers and info slip out. That's why I was so stunned.

I'm not gonna post the name, cause if it was a one time mistake, I don't wanna beat them up. But if I learn that it isn't a one time screw up, I'll put it up here.

Thanks for the replies.

You really SHOULD name the school. That way when someone's identity gets stolen and they lose their ass to some thief... the injured party will know who to go after.

If my name and SSAN appeared on a spreadsheet that got emailed around, I would be all over those idiots....with a lawyers broadside!!

You would actually be doing a "public service"....so don't hesitate posting the who, who dunnit!

I would contact their corporate headquarters if they have one. Possibly even report them to what state board licenses them.

All it takes is one time, for your life to be ruined.
