I don't think there is one.

I wear steel toe ALWAYS, I kinda attached to them. Also some places you pick up from or grop off require them, even van drivers.

To answer your question.

FMCSR doesn't say anything about footwear.

Most drivers wear steel toe when they are out the truck working and something comfortable while driving.

I remember talking to a female truck driver who wasn't wearing shoes while driving when she was stopped by the DOT (IIRC, she had a marker out). The officer threatened to write her up for violating the FMCSR for not wearing shoes. She handed him her copy of the rules and asked him to point out what FMCSR she had broken. He couldn't and let her go with a verbal warning.

I can understand that Companys usually dictate footwear and safety issue's for footwear but i was curious about what the book says i couldn't find anything on footwear in there either..

Boy that lady was brave driving a big truck without shoes lol...and brave to confront a D.O.T Officer like that....

Thanks for info Everyone

No there is nothing in the federal regs about footwear.

Companies on the other hand may have policies dictating what is and is not acceptable.

That lady was brave, but you gotta love it when when somebody calls Bravo Sierra to the DOT man and pulls it off. What it boils down to is right is right and this time she was right and the DOT man knew it. What suprises me is he didn't find something else to write her for.

She was a hoot to talk to and could really project that "I don't take bullshit from anyone" look, much like my ex-mother in law is good at. I think the DOT officer decided it was best to quit while he was ahead.

I was thinking that you had to wear shoes, while driving, and Alabama is the only state that allows you to drive barefoot. That's what I've heard.
