I'm j*&%cked off

SO here's the deal.
I get up this morning, cant find my phone, kids thought it was funny to hide it from me. Cool.

I get in Pittsburgh this morning to load for 3 stops. I grab all my bills. The bill for the Perryopolis job has no directions. I ask for directions. I'm told "I dont have nothing on that". OK! So I'm expected AS USUAL to deliver to a jobsite that I have no idea where it is with no directions or cell phone. Fine. So I load up and start my journey.

Pittsburgh to Bridgeville, PA - stop complete no problem.
Bridgeville, PA to Wheeling, WV - stop complete no problem.
Wheeling, WV to Perryopolis, PA - Here's where the bullshit starts.

I ask away on the cb if anyone was familiar with Maplewood street in Perryopolis. Think anyone was? Nope.
I pull into a gas station to use a pay phone. No payphone. They ripped it out.
I pull into another gas station, go inside, and ask. The worker actually knew the guy whose HOUSE I was delivering to. Told me how to get there. So I get in the truck and go. I get to where I think this guy lives, but nobody is home, there is no number on his house or mailbox (I needed 59), and I even looked in the mailbox to see if something would have his name on it. Nothing was in the mailbox. Ask a neighbor? Yeah sure. There are none.

So I'm not going to drop the load at a house that could be the wrong house, plus it was a C.O.D. so I simply say to hell with it, I felt that I made my efforts, and took the load back to the company yard (which is not the same place as where I load), and went home.

I call the dispatcher, tell him what happened, and he was pissed because I SHOULD HAVE CALLED HIM! PHONE OR NO PHONE. (GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
So he calls the customer, tells him the story, fine. Will be delivered tomorrow afternoon.

15 minutes ago, I get a call from my boss (dispatcher at rebar plant called and told on me  )who bitched at me for 8 min 28 sec. because again, "I SHOULD HAVE CALLED!", tells me I'm not getting paid when I do deliver it, continues to cuss and put me down, although it was perfectly fine that the dispatcher sent me out with no directions!! Thats irrelevent. Sure. What part are these dumbasses missing here? Am I supposed to knock on people door to ask to use their phone because of the all important 1000 pound load of rebar?!??!? Yeah RIGHT!! Have fun.
I have been angry before, sure, everyone gets mad at their job/employer, but I am SOOOO close to pulling a Mackman right now that it isnt even funny. If I hear 1 more thing about it tomorrow, I dont think I will be able to stop myself from saying shove the truck up your as$ and walking out. I'm almost on my way out the door anyway because I found a new job a couple weeks ago, but the trailer I will be using (the only curtain side they have) is in the shop getting repaired from an accident and not exactly sure when it will be ready.

Well thats all for now. I'm starting to ramble a bit, but thanks for letting me vent. Now lets here all the other things I coulda/shoulda done.

inmate1577 09-18-2007 08:33 AM

Yeah I know...Thats the only thing really stopping me and keeping me somewhat grounded, is the kids....But at the same time, I wont be disrepected no more. Already warned the wife to be ready to pick me up in wilkinsburg tomorrow incase I go off the wall. If so, I will more than likely have a job the same morning. I'm done being talked to like an idiot. If I was an idiot, and made no effort, thats 1 thing, but when I KNOW I did and felt I did my job, I aint gonna be talked down to.

BTW, I tried adding you on myspace! You denied me!!
my thing is padeerslayer03

Mackman 09-18-2007 09:32 AM

damn i denied you. LOL probley cuz i didnt know it was you. Am going to add you then. Thats one thing i dont put up with and that is yelling and being talked down to. If i mess up tell me i will try to fix it but dont yell. Am out here tryin to do my best and its not like i mess up cuz i want to.

inmate1577 09-18-2007 10:32 AM

Pissing off the dispatcher is like pissing off the cook.
What you get might not be what you want.

Oh, OK.

Part Time Dweller 09-18-2007 01:30 PM

WTF? How hard is it to find a phone? Call it from the house phone and follow the ring.

I would be PO'd too if a supposed grown man used that as an excuse for not making a delivery.. Sorry, but that is akin to the dog ate my homework.

What is so hard about this? I'll type slowly for you.
1)Can't find cell phone.
2)Take house phone, call cell phone, follow ring to said cell phone.

Not to hard, is it? By the way, if he taught his kids to respect his belongings, and not treat them as toys, they would never have hid the phone in the first place.

That only works if the cell phone is ON and charged.

I have to agree about the kids. My kids knew better.

I think kids hide phone is dog ate homework excess.

No land line, how about the wifes cell?

A 19 month old doesn't know any better, that is why it is a good idea to keep a cell phone out of reach. I know my grandkids will grab it any chance they get if it is in reach. BTW, you originally said kids, how old are the other ones?

Any ways, do you still have a job? I know if I pulled that and used a lame excuse like you did, I would be looking for a new gig.

Ehhh...Not into running around the house at 5:15am, looking for her phone then (as I dont keep a 15 minute update on their location), with wife & kids sleeping, wasting more time, being late to load all the OTHER loads that day, risking losing them all to someone else to take...Yeah, ehh, not into that.

As I said, I normally dont have to keep a 15 minute random visual on them, but again, I must have missed one of my "How to be a perfect parent" classes.

you originally said kids, how old are the other ones?
Ashlynn is 4, Hunter is 19 months, Olivia is 9 months. Ashlynn wasnt home by the way if your trying to figure out who was most likely the culprit...But it's kind of irrelevent isnt it? Yeah. Anywho, I found the phone today on top of a can of spaghetti O's in the cupboards under the sink.

Any ways, do you still have a job?
Unfortunatley yes. Nobody gave me a reason to toss them the keys today. But that doesnt mean I'll still be there by friday...

I know if I pulled that and used a lame excuse like you did, I would be looking for a new gig.
Sounds like you work for a shitty company..Do they make you run illegal logs in unsafe vehicles too? The load DOES need delivered right?..You dont work for Walshack do ya?? This aint super trucker Rich is it??!?!? SupER RiccCHhh!!!! Gee, I didnt know you were on this board..And when did you move so far away?

Ok, I've had enough mama's family for now. Gotta rest up for tomorrow.

LOL 19month old kid Jim that is a baby hehehe well maybe a child. Kid start around 5 to 11, then teens. LOL Perfect parenting classes yea Jim I missed that too. Mine are 19 and 22 both have birthdays in Dec. By the way yes to me Dec is very very expensive. You just hope you do some of the parenting correctly. It's funny you need a license to do just about anything drive, get married, and most other things important but you don't need a license for the hardest job in the world that needs the most knowledge and that is to have kids and raising them. Makes you wonder what the h***.
Jim if that is the only thing you lose by the time they are 18 your doing great. I got a bet you'll be like most parents, you'll lose most of your mind.

Have a good one and keep doing the best you can and the kids and life will turn out just fine.

It's some sort of puzzle-game. The object is to keep your pen moving through Lines 1 and 2 without touching Line 4.

I have six kids, never took a parenting class, yet my kids knew by that age what to touch and what not to touch. It's called parenting, and if you can't handle it now, how are you going to handle the later years? Maybe you should sign up for the same parenting class as Briteny Spears is taking as you seem just as clueless.

By the way, anything you need for your job should not be left laying around for kids to be using as a toy. Good thing you are not a carpenter as I would hate to see the results of the kids playing with your saws.

fireman932003 09-20-2007 03:25 AM

I really don't think ANY of us a qualified to tell this person what kind of parent they are! No parents are perfect and we all make mistakes! BUT, you should have made more of an effort to find out about the load. I personally would not have left the yard until I knew where I was going but that is just me.

inmate1577 09-20-2007 08:37 AM

Why are you still there?
Oh I forgot you are looking for your cell phone. I hope there is a good attorney in your phonebook.

Maybe you missed the "how to be a responsible truck driver class!"

Your cellphone is your lifeline in today's trucking world! NEVER leave home without it! And NEVER leave it where a child can reach it!

This is too simple! You are pissed at your company for your OWN failings as a driver! This is your JOB! This is NOT "Romper Room!"

Every truckstop I stop in STILL has payphones available. One should NEVER, I repeat NEVER head out towards a receiver without perfect directions or a phone call to said receiver.

To do so, is irresponsible as a driver, and cannot be blamed on anyone else, let alone a child!

Grow up and take some responsibility. Don't blame your company for expecting YOU to be prepared. And don't try to give them an excuse that is the fault of a child!

Your CHILD is NOT the truck driver.... YOU are!

Act like one!

Snowman7 09-21-2007 05:44 AM

With most local operations the dispatcher or someone in the office is supposed to call on residential deliveries and make sure someone is home or get instructions for delivery etc.

This was a comedy of errors that all came together at one time.

After all he did find the house and no one was home for a COD delivery. Again, at most places thats on the office/dispatcher.

His mistake was not calling the office before bringing it back, even though a call probably wouldnt have changed much, the customer wasnt home. Still he shouldve called. 100% wrong.

Bring backs happen every day in local deliveries.

Cell phone a life line? LOL, thats hilarious. Wow, how did the old timers ever do anything? I'll bet 99% of the time he can complete his route without a cell phone.

You supertruckers who never make mistakes or have a bad day kill me! Nobody's perfect, yet some of you act like you are.

Jimbpard 09-21-2007 07:58 AM

One of the only good post I have seen come out of this whole mess (topic).

Thank you Snowman.

It is quite simple Snowman, the old timers found a pay phone and called like they were supposed to. Now with the advent of cell phones, pay phones are disappearing faster than a new plate of chicken at the buffet, which makes it even more important to have your phone with you. .

So I'm not going to drop the load at a house that could be the wrong house, plus it was a C.O.D. so I simply say to hell with it, I felt that I made my efforts, and took the load back to the company yard (which is not the same place as where I load), and went home

As far as nobody being home for a COD, Jimbo wasn't even sure he was at the correct place. Who knows, the guy that ordered it was probably waiting.

That is what oldtimers did in the old days.

BTW, Supertruckers make mistakes all the time, we just don't blame them on toddlers.

Actually Jimbo (as in me) was at the right place. Actually took the load yesterday morning.
When handed the directions that the office people finally deemed necessary to have, I read them, and just laughed. It's just that damn funny. Ahhh well.............................................. ............

Well guys, have a good weekend. I'm gonna go eat some beer and drink some BBQ down at Rockys pit. Yes....I know I know...I should drink beer...I'm a cdl holder.....Thats why I'm gonna eat it instead. DONT WORRY! The 4 year old is the designated driver for the night. 8)
