Food grade tanker hauling..any info or advice?
I've been driving a few years now and have pulled vans, flatbeds, and end dumps. I was just offered a local home every night job pulling a tanker I believe smooth bore. It will be hauling liquid sweetener from my hometown to various coca cola plants within a 250 mile radius. It is supposed to pay in the $50k a year range which is a lot for my area. What's it like pulling these tankers and how much of a mess is it to clean them out when your done? Thanks

Nice clean work.Normally not much waiting unless production line breaks down or shipper screws up.Both are rare but your company should pay detention anyway.

Well rubberducky it sounds like you got a pretty good deal there. That is exactly what I have been doing for the last two months. Sure different than what I was used to and am still getting use to the different feel of movement in the tank. Sweetener is pretty heavy so you can get some pretty good slamming going on. You will probably have to wash out the tank every 72 hours, at least thats how coke is here, maybe your terminal has a wash rack set up where you load at. It takes anywhere from 30 to 40 minutes to unload and like was mentioned you dont have to wait around as much like with regular freight, although a couple of times I have had trouble finding someone in receiving to sign off saying its ok to unload. You will get sticky once in awhile until you get your routine down pat. Gook luck with it.
