Engine Brake???

So whats the big deal with engine brakes??? I see the signs NO ENGINE BRAKES IN THIS AREA??? Whats the big deal....noise? And while were at it, couls someone please clarify exactly what engine braking is and does???

its all about the noise. A stock truck is not loud at all. Its the guys that run stright pipes and hit there jakes a 2am that makes the signs go up. I think stright pipes are cool one day if i ever have a truck thats the 1st thing am going to do is stright pipe it. But i will not be useing the jake at 2am unless on major highways.

It's a engine compression brake and the big deal is noise
How would you like someone who's running it for no reason going by your house at O dark Thirty?

Say thanks to the childish Billy Big Rigger's who let them hammer away on full for you not being allowed to use yours. Do it in the middle of no where, not thru a truck stop parking lot or a residential neighborhood just because you have to be awake and other's don't. They are the same drivers who whine when someone goes by and wakes them up doing the same thing they have done countless times because they think it's funny or cool.

Yeah...... I was headed W.B. on US-24 this morning about 5am. I was following a Diamler-Chrysler big truck and just as we approached the I469 loop there were a bunch of drivers sleepin.... and he lays on the air horn for a good 30 seconds..... and then I hear him and his collegue close behind me on the cb laughin and talkin all kinda smack about it...

Engine Brake

"I will not be using the jake at 2 AM unless on major highways." Albuquerque citizens living off the I-40 WB will not appreciate that, .... plus you could get a ticket from the Albuquerque PD or Bernalillo County sheriff. BOL

They don't give out many tickets for that on Albuquerque Hill but they can if they want to.
Kinda hard to miss the sign

9-Mile Hill is what we call it. And for the record, I have never seen anyone ticketed for jake brakes going EB into Albuquerque.

It's a safety device isn't it? How can they really tell you that it is illigal to use? Kind of makes you wonder.

Now on flat land ok why are you using it to begain with you know but on hills that may require it welllllllllll?????

I would hate to be woke up every few minutes none the same. :D
