Taxes

I Heard that about 28% of your check is is for taxes. Now my questions

1 Do the companies take the taxes out or do you get paid gross and need to hold money for taxes.

2 do you file once a year or quarterly

3 do you get a a tax refund

As a company driver the company you work for should withhold income tax, SSI, etc from your check just like any other job. If you work as an O/O then everything is on your shoulders. There are some "employers" that pay company drivers on a 1099. This is illegal and if you are offered a job at one of these places my advice is to walk away. The ones that do this are usually small fleet owners or very small companies who do not want to pay in their half of your SSI taxes.

If you are being paid on a 1099 and not having any taxes withheld then you must file quarterly. Otherwise you file yearly.

Whether or not you get a tax refund depends on your tax situation.
