is the written CDL test an open or closed book test?

Colts Fan 09-09-2007 11:56 AM

It's closed book.

you take it on a computer, all multiple choice, if you read the book before you go, it should be no problem

I just took my written tests on Friday. The questions are computer generated and selected in random order. You never know exactly what you're going to get.

I am going to a school so I was prepared pretty well. I passed all 6 tests on the first try. There were still some questions on there that I wasn't sure of, but there were a lot that were EXACTLY the same as some of the test questions we went over in school.

Are you going to a school?

hmmm, just getting all my ducks in a row been thinking bout this for a very long time.

There used to be a really good site out there with practice tests, but I believe the one I used is gone now. Here is one that I found that looks pretty good though. Good luck!

Agreed. If you take as many online tests as you can b4 hand it will make it a lot easier for you. Spend most of your time on hazmat (if you need it). That seems to be the area that screws people up the most.

Found the test. Good practice. Thanks!

thanks for this info took the test got most of the questions right.Haven't even been to school yet or ever been on a truck so alot of it seems common sense.

Bouncer,

Pumpkindriver.com has a bank of test questions. Newbie Quiz links in lower right hand corner of main page. Very similiar to my permit test in FL.

I live in PA and studied from www.cristcdl.com and the questions from that site were word for word how they are on the actual test you take at you dmv.
Click on "online testing center"
then study ALL pages/questions from "General Knowledge", "Air brakes", and "combination vehicle" sections.
You will end up with a few headaches, but when you go to the dmv and your screen says "congratulations, you passed", it will all be worth it.

You're right there, most of it is just common sense. I would also recommend that you go ahead and take the additional endorsement tests as well, even if you don't plan on using them. I carry the Tanker and Doubles/Triples endorsement although I don't have any plans of using them in the near future, you just never know.

It also wouldn't hurt if you took the tests and got the permit on your own before you go to school. It might save you from spending the first 2 or 3 days preparing for the tests and buy you a couple extra days behind the wheel at your school. I know it sure would've been a benefit to me at my school.

Good luck.
