PTDI Training

I am a newbee in Buffalo New York ....How important is it to go to a PTDI Certified School. Cost is just under $7000.00 to attend National Tractor Trailer School in Buffalo. Was told that to be certified at a PTDI school counted as 6 months experiance. Any info or input would be appreciated.
Thank Newbee in Buffalo New York..

Some companies only take new grads from PTDI certified schools. $7000 sounds rather expensive. SAGE is a school with an excellent reputation and is not nearly that expensive. Here are the NY locations:

SAGE Tech Truck Driving School
3129 Old Vestal Rd.
Vestal, NY 13850
1-877-709-7243 (Binghamton, Elmira and Ithaca area; also serving northern PA)

SAGE at Mohawk Valley Community College
1101 Floyd Ave.
Academic Bldg., Room 201
Rome, NY 13440-4699
1-866-878-2568 or 315-334-7793 (Utica/Rome, Syracuse, Watertown and Albany areas)

Seven grand  . Man that hurts. I am going to a community college that is PTDI cert and accredited and payed $2200 for a four week class. Granted this is IA and not NY but that seems like a reaming to me. I have not heard anything about counting as 6 mos though. Possibly some companies policies :?:

I agree with the above. It is BS.

Going to and passing a PTDI course with a 90% or better will assure you that you will not be turned down by any company due to your schooling.

I've seen PTDI schools that are 100% CDL mills.. the certificaton / recertification process is a joke! Visit the schools if at all possible and find out when the school is due to go through recertification again.. they seem to "refresh" their courses and start following the guidelines when the certifying board is getting close. Again, there are plenty of schools that are GREAT and acceptable to even the big training companies. Call the trucking companies and get prehired and get some suggestions for schools that they accept.

If you are interested in a company assisting you with the cost of driving school, and a support network visit (CFIdriversdotcom) forum and read the school threads. They have several programs to choose from. Christine is the recruiter and will be happy to answer any of your questions as well as others. Sign in and introduce yourself.
And..No im not getting anything in return..Just my opinion.

Which school did you go to Popeye?

My school told me the course was worth 12 months experience "in some cases" but I have yet to find the employer who counts it as a single day's worth.

* But I did have a few employers (like Perdue) who told me that I would not be hired as a rookie without the certificate.
