Things to bring to trucking school

Anything special that should be brought.

If you can get one before hand without paying through the nose,

A motor carrier atlas.

Also:

Calculator
6 inch ruler
folder for holding papers
work gloves

Most important items:
Good sense of humor (you will see what I mean)
A true willingness to learn.

A nice shiny jar of applesauce....
I'd say an apple but most trucking instructors(or drivers) dont have teeth.

Me too.

Though I went to school close enough to commute, and didn't stay in a motel. If I had, I would have brought toiletries and changes of clothes and stuff.

My school mandated:
Current Copy of the FCMSA Saftey Rules
Trucking Handbook
A nifty little handbook called "North America Standard Out of Service Criteria"
A 2007 Edition Rand Atlas
A working pencil
And a calculator.

About $100 in texts.

I showed up with an open mind, attentive and willing to learn, even though I already had my CDL and some experiance.
Everything else was provided.
OK OK I also brought pens, pencil, ruler, notebook, folder, white out, calculator and a bookbag as well as my cdl, dot longform, passport, haz-mat background check documents and something to drink.
What can I say, I like to be prepared

*Don't forget your raincoat, at least while you're on the school lot practicing maneuvers - We got dumped on the 1rst week.
*Bring enough drinking water to get you through a hot day & maybe sun protection - you may start at a dusty lot with very little shade or facilities.
*Don't bring or take any kind of pain reliever that will foul up a drug test should you have to take one. Unless you're very athletic & do alot of leg presses, you're left leg will be screamin after you have your 1rst couple of days of never ending pushing & working that clutch during all of the backing maneuvers! :P
