A tad embarassing...
I've never driven a manual transmission in my life! Is there any way to prepare a little bit before trucking school or should I just go in there with a clean slate?
|
Maybe rent a manual from HERTZ, ENTERPRISE, ALAMO, ect... and take it to a parking lot for practice. Just be sure to bring a friend to drive it to the lot... :D
|
from what I've seen on the scneider site, it's better if you have no experience. Driving a manual car can lead to some habits that need to be UNleanred...as most semi's require double clutch, etc.
i'll be in training on the 18th |
Truck Shifting
Not to worry. As a previous poster said, the instructors won't have to unlearn you of any bad habits. Their job and yours will be easier. BOL

I went to truck driving school not knowing how to drive a manual trans and it was a bit hard getting used to but if you have good instructors it won't be a problem. Good luck
|
You are better off not knowing how, I have allways drove manuals and had a hrad time changing the way I used the clutch
|
Your probably better off with no manual experience. When I left trucking school everyday I had a hard time driving my 5-speed Ranger, grinding gears, not being used to how easy it was to depress the clutch after being in the big rig. In school your not supposed to get out of 6th or 7th put it in neutral and coast up to red lights which was a hard habit to brake when I drive my ranger like that all the time.

i'll be in training on the 18th Sir/or Madam, you really need to not let yourself get brainwashed by, especially of all, the schneider company. Thank you and good day. Your friend, Brian. |
p.p.s.:
Anyone that thinks no manual trans experience is better than some experience clearly does not know about transmissions and mechanical concepts. Sorry to be so harsh, but i figure it's best to feed you the truth then from someone who just wants your recruitment money. |
Just relax and make those trainers earn their pay.
