Why do drivers cut over so soon?

My truck is governed at 65 so I get passed alot. Plus I work nights so traffic is lighter. Why do drivers cut back over without even a truck lenght between us sometimes and no one pushing them from behind? I just dont get it. Not to mention I drive a Volvo which doesnt like being close to the truck in front. The windstream really rocks the cab side to side. Is it that hard to wait?

Dunno, really. As long as they leave 30' or more and keep their foot in it once they're by (so I don't have to back off to allow proper following distance) I don't have a problem with it. Tell you what though, sometimes I'll get a flash of the lights well before I want to move back over. Like when I'm *just* past their bumper. 'Preciate the gesture, but I'm pretty confident in knowing the dimensions of my truck anyway.

I dunno Snowman. I notice that myself. Our trucks are also governed at 65, so I get passed all the time. Not only the cars, and pickups move back over in no time flat, but it's also a lot of company drivers that do it. Sometimes, it makes me wonder if they are just seeing how close they can get. I run in west Texas at night, and it's not like we have rush hour traffic. :P

Probably so that the four wheelers don't pass them on the right.

This is a pet peeve of mine, and one reason I generally will not flash my lights to OK a truck to come back, most times the truck is already on its way back B4 I would be ready to flash.

I will not move back early just because 4wheelers are piling up behind me, I have alot more respect for the truck Im passing and to not move back B4 their is adequete space. If the 4wheelers want to pass on my right then so be it. Ill patiently wait in the left lane till its clear in the right lane.

Company drivers??, all drivers not just company

It really pizzes me off when a 4wheeler is passing me and another big truck is in the left lane and roars down on the 4wheeler tailgating them while beside me. The big truck inevitably will brake hard with jakes. The poor 4wheeler thinks they have to get out of the way and the 4wheeler will immediatly pull in front of me putting me into a tailgating position.

What the heck are the drivers thinking out here these days (4wheeler and big trucks)

(Sorry if I sound mad but this is a pet peeve)

that reminds me, not even a week ago, a big truck was behind me. they moved out to the second lane to pass me then "just" when they passed me they cut over inches from my cab just to hit the exit they almost passed w/out warning. now that's something i'd expect of a 4 wheeler cutting across multiple lanes of traffic to hit the exit ramp but not from a big truck.

Im tellin' ya!!! Im starting to have more respect for the 4wheelers at times over the way some of the BBR's are driving. I try to give everybody, 4wheelers and big trucks alike, the respect they deserve, but sometimes its really hard. I just gotta shake my head.

That's a very good point. I find that if I wait until there is a reasonable amount of space I get a line of impatient four wheelers passing on the right. Also when a driver is speeding they don't like hanging out in the hammer lane any longer than necessary.

and one seems to find a nice blind spot to hang. had that happen to me once was at the perfect spot that i didn't even see him in my blindspot mirror. turned my blinker on, waited a few seconds, started to move over, at that point the car drifted into view in my mirror and i went back to the left lane. once they passed me they proceded to tell me i was number 1 lol. when will they get the idea that the right lane is usualy not a good place to try and pass. it's in most evry diving manual i've ever read.

Driving manual!! Meaningless. (Sarcassim(sp) added)
In todays society its me first get out of the way, or im cutting my own path.

I just learn to expect them to possible dart out and start passing me on the right.

What really amazing is when I do start over into the right lane after a pass, the 4wheel thats pushing my bumper will start coming around me (on my left) just as im crossing the zipper, they may even use the left shoulder to give themselves more room. God forbid if I have to make a sudden move back to the left lane.
