What kind of Questions should a person ask
I have read a couple other post saying you should not ask recruiters about the money right of the bat. So I would like some experienced people out there to give me a list of some good question to ask a recruiter. I am looking going towards Swift. It has a termival not to far from my house that I should be able to be based out of.
|
You need to ask about anything and everything that is important to you.
Some things you can ask about: Base pay and how is it calculated loading and unloading pay detention pay break down and layover pay pet policy rider policy type of equipment and average age of equipment health insurance life insurance do they pay or reimburse for lumpers, scales, tolls, etc. % of no touch freight speed policy do they provide 24/7 support/dispatch 401k or other type of retirement account Never ever be afraid to ask a question and expect a straight forward answer. |
Questions To Ask
All Uturn said plus disability insurance. BOL
|
Thanks for the questions u-turn. I have not had to look for a job in 14 years. You go kind of brain dead after that long. If you no what I mean. This will get me started.

there is a post here about what a new driver should as... try a fast search, im sure you'll find it
|
If you are a brand new driver you really need to ask about the training program?
In addition another good question to ask at any level is How do I get home if for some reason I am unable to complete orientation/training/resign? |
There are some other very important questions that you should make sure to ask as well:
1.) You all don't check DAC reprts, do you?? 2.) That DWI that I got will be a year old in another eight months. That won't be a problem, will it?? 3.) I know that I have to take a drug test.....I also know it's unconstitutional......Can you tell me if that stuff called "ReadyKleen" really works?? 4.) I'll be done with probation in about 11 more months. Could you all promise me home time on the first Thurday of each month?? 5.) Is it true that the cops can search your truck anytime they feel like it?? I know that there are a lot of drivers out there who have more experience than I do, so perhaps they might be able to add to this list. |
One more question to ask is.....
Will my Felonies for drug trafficking, possession of a illegal narcotic and vehicular man slaughter keep me from being a trainer? |

DOES THE COMPAMY GIVE ME THE PHONE NUMBER FOR THE FEDERAL MARSHALS OR DO I HAVE DO GET THAT MY SELF? HOW MANY LOG BOOKS AM I ALLOWED TO USE? DOES THE COMPANY REIMBURSE ME FOR THE COST OF LOT LIZARDS AND HIGH SPEED CHICKEN FEED IF I GET A RECIEPT OR IS THAT TAX DEDUCTIBLE? |
Does your company actually audit my log book ?

Papasweet;
If you are interviewing with Swift it won't matter what you ask. They'll hire you. But Swift will not be your best bet. There are better alternatives. You are on the right track by looking around and finding a terminal close to home. Look further. I found a furniture manufacturer close to me and it has worked out very well....I've been driving about a year and a half. I called first - before I was licensed - and asked them if they ever hire newly licensed drivers. He said yes, on occasion, he did. Then after I got my license I called him back, went in to talk to him and was hired that day, pending background check. Call even if their advertisement and material says they require X years experience. Take your training seriously, ask lots of questions here at the forum, and factor out the well meaning wisecracks. :) BOL |
"Can we drink beer during orientation?"
Funny, but about two years ago I had a driver in orientation who decided to drink a beer during a break at orientation and got sent home. He actually called me up after he got sent home and cussed me out because I was his recruiter and I didnt tell him that you couldnt drink beer during orientation. You know us recruiters....always leaving out the important details. Shame on me! |
Useless needs to be posting in the humor section I guess. Some of us wanting to get into trucking has alot of questions and the sarcasism does not answer are questions. Though it was funnt but not right for the question asked. Thanks to the ones who did give a serious answer.

This forum is for new drivers and want to be drivers. we are asking questions to get some real answers. Not some body that wants to be a smarta-- if you know what I Mean. Don't mean to be so forth right but I would like some real answers not some BS. Thanks again to all that has posted some real answers.

This fool won't last long......in the industry, or, for that matter, here either!! He'll take that same attitude to a Dispatcher's office, or into a chicken house, or into the cab of a truck with a trainer......then, he'll be back here, starting a new thread, asking about how to get himself and his belongings home after he's been left behind at a truck stop, or for that matter, on the side of the road!! Go ahead and drive for SWIFT, Pops!! You and SWIFT deserve each other!! :P |
Like I said. Useless and Fireboy can't even carry a intelligent conversation. Please don't reply to any of my threads because what you have said has helped no one that wants to be in the business. Have nothing to say further to anyone of you. And if you had anything that was said intelligent I would not even take it to heart now, Because you all fit the profile that you all complain about, that the general public has about truck drivers. To everyone else I am sorry that these jokers corrupted my thread.[/quote]

So, we fit the profile of truckers that the public complains about?? Duuuuuuude!!! You have never even turned your first mile!! So, when did you become such an expert ?? |

Real nice. Obviously you have no sense of humor. On occasion someone will interject humor into a post. How dare they. |
In your honor, Papasweet!!
Questions Papasweet Should Ask SWIFT Recruiters: "Listen, I have some questions, and I don't need any smartassed answers": 1.) If I ask my trainer a question, will he give me a straight answer?? I don't need any smartassed comments comming from him!! 2.) If I ask my dispatcher a question, will he/she give me a straight answer?? I don't need any smartassed comments comming from him/her?? 3.) Please tell the freight manager and the dispatcher not to send me anymore messages on the Qual-Com; I don't need any smartassed comments comming from them!! 4.) "Pappasweet", speaking to SWIFT Safety Officer: "That smartasses DOT Cop told me to "Have a nice day"!!" I told him, "By God!! This is America!! If I wanna have a CRAPPY day, that's my right, and I'll be DAMMED if some smartass pig is gonna tell me what kind of day to have" Do I have to put up with a DOT Cop's smartass comments?? ....or, can I call The Federal Marshall on his ass?? |

You won't last more then a week with an aditude like that. If you don't have a sense of humor, then I would forget about getting into trucking. As for the questions that USELESS posted; go read some of the threads as of late and you will see why he posted them. And by the way: THIS IS A PUBLIC MESSAGE BOARD! ANYONE CAN REPLY TO YOUR POSTS! IF YOU DONOT LIKE THE REPLY, THEN SKIP IT AND GO ON TO THE NEXT ONE! |
