Another Newbie

Yes another newbie  Im sure most are tired of the newbies haha.

Well lets bowl it down. Im 24 yrs old working at a dead end job not making money been at a company for 4 years that only cares about making profit over employ moral. I work as a shipping/receiving at a local warehouse ( I know hated around here haha ) Kinda sounds like trucking I know.

I been wanting to get into trucking for some time now. I check this site a few times a week and read alot. I have read alot of the questions but I have a few of my own. I have yet to obtain my CDL. Wanting to get into a private school at MTI or at the local community college. I noticed alot of company's hire from recent grads. I know to stay away from some company's like swift.

Im looking more towards a tanker haul. Maybe regional if I can help it. Home time isnt a huge issue but I'd like to come home atleast 1-2 a month. Is it possible to get into a tanker/bulk fresh from CDL school? Thats what my goal is anyways. Im kinda looking into Schneider or Millis Transfer. So are my goals as a newbie tanker driver possible?? Or do they normally hire with experience? I didnt notice anything saying that on Schneider's website.

Only thing that will limit me is that I have to go to the doctor every 3 months for an existing brain tumor I had 10+ years ago but im fine now. I have to take 5 meds 2 of which have to be refrigerated and none ( I think ) will dis-qualify me from not obtaining my CDL's .Im single ( and loving it ) no kids and very little bills. I have read the very little pro's and all the cons of trucking and I still think it might be a good experience for me maybe help me grow up a little more.

Thank you all for your wisdom and help.

i believe Swift is a good starter company although i have never worked there. they have a long training period with your "mentor" which will give you that, hoepfully, helpful hand when blindside back occurs.

i know schnieder will train you first with a dry van and than would go to tanker training. going that road will increase your time with a trainer. if you want to start yanking a tank solo right after school i dont think that is possible. pulling a tank is harder than pulling a box van and takes getting used to especially with corners and stopping.

i would check on the meds and get a letter from your doctor that says you are free of the tumor. getting another letter from a different doctor in a different office would probably help out too. do the meds make you dizzy or drowsy?? if so you might have a long battle head of you unless the docs are able to prescribe a nondrowsy Rx.

Yea I figured I couldnt just hop into a tanker.

Nah none of the meds make me drowsy or dizzy. Now I get drowsy when I dont take my medicine makes me feel weak and tired alot. But that medicine I only take every 2 weeks in eather a shot form or a patch

thanks for the help !!!
