New log book/pre-trip info.
 

Well the new log book (loose leaf actually) I bought for the month has no pre-trip stuff on the back that I have to sign/date/check off.
Actually nothing is on the back at all. Just blank.
I still log 15 mins for PTI on the actual log though. Is this legal, or do I now have to buy "inspection report forms" or whatever they are??
I'd be furious to have to pay a fine for something so stupid..

You only have to log the VI (Vehicle Inspection) on the logbook as accomplished as the 1st 15min line 4 entry before logging "on duty" (driving or not driving). There is no formal checklist that must be followed when you accomplish the VI.

You may be refering to the VR (Vehicle Report). This is usually found at the bottom the logbook. This is where you list all trailers that you were hooked to for that day and report the condition of the units, including tractor. This is not a line 4 entry on your logbook, and the VR is completed at the end of the Logbook day.

so I guess I'm good then. I mark it on my line 4, as PTI Jeannette, PA, as usual, and all is good.

I was taught that you must sign off on your log's vehicle inspection report that the vehicle(s) you operate has/have been inspected and no safetly-critical malfunction has been detected, with the signature dated.

If your logs don't have that section on the page, I'd be safe and write "[Truck #'s], [Trailer #'s]: No defects found, [your signature], [today's date]."

Yes, you do.
It's says in the DOT regs, that a driver must complete a written VIR (vehicle inspection report) each day.

We use a seperate form called a DVIR (daily vehicle inspection report). That way we can prove to DOT we actually inspected the vehicle. I believe the regs require you to leave a copy in the vehicle so the next driver can review it before he operates the vehicle.

No, you sign it even if there are no problems found. If problems are found, they must be listed, and the person who performs the repairs must sign off on it.

Yeah, I got that bassakwards.. the report has to be signed..I don't know what the heck I was thinking...
