Rookie w/ CDL-B needs your advice.
I know this site is called CAD and not CBD, but bear with me...
I'm 21, turning 22 soon. I got my CDL-B when I turned 20, but am having a really hard time finding B-truck companies that hire people without any commercial driving experience (I live in MA). Every company I've looked at (with 1 exception) require at least 2 years CD experience. If I want to start driving now without having to start out at the bottom somewhere, is my only realistic option going the Class A route? Have any of you found yourselves in a similar situation when you started out? Did I just waste $3000 for trucking school? Thanks! |

$2600 actually

Hmm...for that amount of coin, a Class A license makes more sense.
However, since you've got you're Class B, keep knocking on doors. Have you tried LTL companies? You may have to work the dock for a while...but...at least your foot is in the door. Best! :) |
where about in mass I might have a lead on a class B job if your in my area

I'm waiting to hear if I get hired from Waste Management, but I doubt I will. After all, why bother hiring a rookie... |

How about the school you graduated from? Do they have a job placement service?
|
Have you tried local moving companies? How about food and beverage companies like Coke, Pepsi and bottled water companies. Generally, jobs that require lifting have high turnover rates, so somebody will probally give you a shot. Afterall, you are young and should be in decent shape.

The same goes for Waste Management. Yes..you will start off working the neighborhood garbage pickup...but in MA WM is most likely Union..therefore you would get set-up with Union wages a bennies..and again..work for a couple years accident free, prove you are worth the risk, and you could well claim your class A upgrade with WM, then move into CWM (Chemical Waste Management), and into their Road Fleet. The driver's in WM's chem waste division knock down some serious $$$. |
Sounds like a terrible driving school
