some companys advertise 7 days on and 7 days off. otr
|
There are bucket fulls of them. Nearly any OTR company and many local regional companies have these positions. They are called Casual. They dont advertise them or anything , just start asking. You will b surprised how many places need casual drivers.

Lately Roadway has been a part-time job. Work 2 weeks get layed off. Work 2 more and get layed off.
|
Yeah, the more part time jobs, the less bennies they have to pay...
|
You will still average 40+ hours in a week, and make low pay, with no benefits.
But I agree...lots of companies. |
We have quite a few part time jobs over here at JB. They tend to be mostly yard jockey jobs. No benefits but tend to pay ok.
Here is the problem with part time jobs. Not many companies are going to count that as driving experience. You could do it for a few years and then decide that you want to go back full time and then be unhireable because of lack of experience. The strange thing is that even if I put a driver in a part time job over here and many years later he decides he wants to stay at JB but now do fulltime OTR....he most likely couldnt transfer because of lack of experience. |
so wait explain, if someone drives 7 days on 7 days off, the driver will still get about 50,000 miles doing otr, and youre saying it will not count towards experience at all?

anthony1995 where do you live? This would help people give you better answers to your question.
There are also temporary employment companies out there like www.prodrivers.com that have part time and local gigs available. Also check out www.linkstaffing.com also. Hopefully one of them is in your area. Both have offices is multiple states. If you live in or near a major city, look in the yellow pages under employment agencies. |
Thanks for the responses so far guys. My wife and I own/run a commercial cleaning company that is doing well. I thought I'd like a part time driving job for a little extra income. I'm located in Huntsville, Alabama. Seems like a good shipping lane here. I heard that Werner has a dedicated route out of the new Target distribution center here.....

Do any of the bigger guys like Werner or Averitt hire casual drivers or would it be better to target some of the smaller local companies here in North Alabama?
|
i tried to go casual with some of the big boys and had no luck. but thats just me

Part-time...dunno. |
