Well, it's hard to find a local job in some cities when you are just starting out. It can be done, but sometimes it means taking a lower pay for them starting you out. Once you get some experience, the locals will come for you, providing you keep yourself safe, and you MVR clean. Good luck.

Con-way has an apprenticeship program and will hire new drivers. But you'll likely be on the flex board for sometime which mean the hours will be unpredictable.

As Cluggy said, it is possible to find a company right out of school that will run you local. BUT, most companies will require some OTR experience before they will hire you. My advise would be to go to the local terminals in your area and ask. It wouldn't hurt. That way you will know what you need to do. BOL

Ask around- the drivers that you see in your area will know.

I had always heard the septic work is kind of $hi%y, but you can eat all you want.

I drive local and have no OTR experience. I'm not going to say it was easy finding the job but it wasn't that difficult, just knock on doors and make calls.

Now you asked who would sponsor training and also hire locally, That's tougher, but most of the LTL's do have programms for folks willing to work the dock during training.
