Who will hire me?
I have a year OTR experience, and I have not driven in over a year. I have a DOT reportable accident on my record, (it involved damage to the trailer, no ticket was issued) After my last company experience, I pursued and landed a non-driving job. Over the past 8 months, I underwent two major surgeries for removal of a brain tumor and my benevolent employer let me go. Medically cleared and looking at a brand new lease on life.
Problem, I have been unemployed (for medical reasons) for 8 months and my CDL lapsed. I will have my CDL back by the end of the month. Looking for a good company to hire on with. Do I have to train all-over again? Basically not too picky at this point (but I'm not a pushover), hoping to find a Wisconsin based carrier (or at least a dropyard or terminal) to get me home on a fairly regular basis, but if it's not, it's not a deal-killer. Thanks for all the advice. P.S. I chatted with a recruiter from Heartland, a company that offers a "refresher" I don't qualify because I don't have 2 years experience. Any other companies offer "refresher's"? |

Packerland in GB has O/O's and Company drivers and is a good company. Not sure what they require for experience. There's another outfit north of you with Great equipment and run reefers. Not sure but I think it's Osborne or something. Name will come to me eventually :P Not sure but I THINK U.P Special Delivery has a Terminal in both GB and Milwaukee-Lot of LTL and some linehaul-they used to have a terminal in Milwaukee anyway |

USX ( Xpress Global division ) has ( had ) a small building in Milwaukee out by the airport. Never saw any Co. drivers there, only O/O leased on to them. They might could give you some names and #s. If working for an O/O is the way you want to go call any of the large carriers and ask to speak to someone that handles the O/Os. That person can tell you plenty of names to get in touch with. If for any reason I went back to OTR that would be the route I would take. I drove for an O/O leased on to USX and I wouldn't have it any other way. Much more freedom and the O/O folks ALWAYS got loads first. I never sat waiting for a load.

Dart is another company that does that, they are 100% owner operator..you can apply to drive for one of their fleet owners. |
I hauled into Fed Ex ground for awhile and their Distribution center is somewhere around Silver Spring or Brown Deer Road . It was quite awhile ago-I forget :P
