If you didn't have the seatbelt on and the law requires you to wear one you shouldn't be mad about getting a ticket. I have yet to see you say you are innocent of the ticket.
Are you going to incur any additional cost by going to court if you lose ie court cost? If the officer shows up I don't give you much of a chance. Are you going to miss work by going to court? |
If the filthy cops were so genuinely concerned with saving lives like they claim, thier police orgizinations would be lobbying auto manufacturers to install 5 point racing style harnesses and similiar safety devices, but you don't see them doing that, there is no profit in it. There is profit however in getting overtime pay for court appearences paid for by 'special funds', i.e. bribes set up by the NHTSA.

I don't know about Florida. But in some states, the local police often do not get ANY of the funds from citations. Usually the funds go to the state. Again, how in the hell can you get so pissed over something you admitted to? You broke the law, now deal with it. The cops didn't FORCE you to not wear your seatbelt. |
Regarding safety belts:
On the one hand, there is no guarantee that if you wear a safety belt, you will survive an accident. Nor is there a guarantee that if you wear a safety belt, you won't suffer long-lasting injuries as a result of an accident. On the other hand, research shows that in the vast majority of accidents, wearing a seatbelt saves lives. Therefore, wearing a safety belt makes sense. Regarding laws: The law is the law is the law. Anyone has the right to disobey the law. 'Tis a free country! However, if you get caught breaking the law, there are consequences....If you or I don't like a law, start a grass roots effort to change it. For example, if enough people (a majority) think that wearing a safety belt should be optional and not mandatory, eventually, the mandatory law will be changed. |
Your wasting your time going to court to fight your ticket, and I would bet that you will lose your case...
When I was young I got a speeding ticket, I fought it because of this reason... At the time I had a car that the speedometer had broken, and I had to make an appointment with my garage to have them install a new one... Needless to say, I wasn't going to get the part changed the same day it broke, so I had no choice but to drive the car, until I could get it repaired... I was driving at night, and going with the flow of traffic... Well, I guess the traffic was going faster than they should have been. Because I got pulled over... I explained to the officer that my speedometer was broken, and that I had an appointment with my garage to get it repaired, or replaced... It didn't matter to the officer, and he gave me the ticket... I went to court, and told them the situation, even bringing the old speedometer with me as evidence, with the receipt for the new one, and the repair bill... They didn't care, they said, the ticket was fair, and that I actually could have been sited for defective equipment as well... So, just when you think you've done nothing wrong, they'll get you anyway... Pay the ticket, and move on with your life... |
