10 speed shift knob question
 

1999 FLC12064ST 10 speed. I think its a fuller. Det 60. Has three cruise control buttons on top of shifter. has two black rocker switches on drivers side of shift knob. Top one seems to be high/low but bottom seems to do something with the trany as well. Need info. Is this aftermarket of orig? Im a rookie and have only used the single gray lever.

Does it have the High-Low thumb lever on the side of the shift knob, plus the slide switch higher up? If so, you may have a 15 speed.

You may have an auto shift button.

both switches are the same. small black rocker switches. The top switch seems to work the high/low.

If it has cruise buttons on the shift knob, that sounds more like a Meritor (Rockwell) transmission than an Eaton-Fuller.

Pack Rat, is Meritor owned by Rockwell? We run Meritor straight 10s, and I cant stand them. Junk! They are nothing like a Road Ranger. :P

Well, fathered actually.

Meritor (Well now ArvinMeritor) is whats left of Rockwells auto and truck component manufacturing. Rockwell spun off it's auto and truck component manufacturing in 1997, forming Meritor. In 2000 Arvin Industries and Meritor Automotive merged to form ArvinMeritor, as the company is known today.

ArvinMeritor is also partnered with ZF Transmissions of Germany. They produce the Freedomline automated transmissions.

I hear one of the biggest gripes about Rockwell/Meritor transmissions is the air over electric range change system. On the other hand, Eaton/Fuller has stuck to the air operated range change system.

FWIW, Eaton invented the range-change transmission when it first introduced the "Roadranger" back in the 1950's. I think Rockwell's air over electric system was an attempt to "improve" on an old idea, however as we all know, improvements aren't always better. :)

Yeah, those Meritors are a fine piece of junk! I hate those electric range switches. Half the time, you gotta wait on it to switch when you come out of 5th, and into 6th. It's like, you are too fast for it, or something. When you shift, it makes weird sounds. Like, a clicking noise when you slide it in, and out. Not the smooth shifting with a finger like the Road Rangers. :P
