suspension to lower clearance
Hey,
We have some trucks that have a high fifth wheel which makes the trailer over 13"6. I have triggered those alarms on I-64 Norfolk/Hampton area and have been routed back to another road. Anyways, this morning I had to run that area again. Before entering the tunnel I released the airbags on the truck. Though the ride became very bumpy, I didn't trigger any alarms & was allowed to thru the tunnel. I let the airbags up after I exited the tunnel. Am I causing any damage to the truck/trailer when infalting/deflating airbags while in motion? I took it easy about 45mph when I had the airbags down, just to be safe I guess. thanks |

I ran back with the airbags low one time, due to a bad height control valve. It cost the company a set of U-joints all around, and the ride was rough as hell. |

air bags
I agree with Moneycat, but using it the way you did just for a short distance I think would be fine.

air bag 2
 I meant to say I agreed with Silvan

Like Silvan said, Yeah. Your putting alot of pressure on the drive line. Over time it will add extra wear and could possibly create the transmission seals to leak. But I don't think dropping them for a short term is really going to hurt too much. Isn't the west side tunnel height lower than the east side?

The warning sensors are about 5 miles before the tunnel (another one 3 miles before I believe), so he did a nice little trip through there. :P
Next time take the Monitor Merrimack Tunnel, It's actually faster, especially at rush hour. 8) |
Personally, I like riding lower...makes me look cool--like I was in one of those Trick My Truck makeovers...hehe. http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/a...s_bucket/2.gif

Money Cat,
DO NOT do that anymore. Running with no air in the bags at ANY speed can tear the syncro out of a transmission in a hurry. Not to mention ujoints, seals any anything else that doesn't react well to tension. |
how much does it cost in a truck i was just down there 2 weeks ago on my way to norfolk in my pickup and it was 12.00
