Do you pull for a company? Maybe the DOT has it in for them.
Otherwise, maybe they just figure you've got money up the crankcase (newer KW) and they would like some of it. :twisted: |

kc0iv But actually...at one time or another, maybe I might have "fudged".... but officially I'll take the 5th. But I haven't even thought about it in a long, long time....not after some of the things I saw happen to people....not worth it, and doing what I'm doing now....it darn sure isn't worth it, nor is it worth losing this good job I have. :D |
Personally, I just log it as I do it and hand him the entire book when he asks for it. I've seen many drivers go to the trouble of cutting the pages out of the company provided logbook and I wonder why? I'm sure that doesn't thrown any red flags up to the DOT at all...
IMO, another thing that can go a long way is filling out the recap portion that is provided inside the cover. It can show that you actually know where you stand as far as hours. I still fill mine out and I get at least 1 restart every single week. It's all pretty simple really. Use the book, log it as you do it, fill the pages out in order and take the few extra seconds to fill out your recap at the end of the day. Why do drivers always have to insist upon making things more difficult than they have to be? Rev, is correct in that there is no reg that says you have to do any of this, but I think we all know that appearing professional and extending a little respect can go with a long way with anyone you encounter, DOT officers included. Just my 2 cents. |

Just my 2 cents. Once you give the D.O.T. he/she has the right to cite you for any violation he/she finds. On the other hand f you give him/her only the required sheets he/she can only review those pages. Lets face it everyone at one time or another have make a mistake in their logbook. So why take the chance? As far as recap sheets? I have yet to see D.O.T. ever look at it. Every time D.O.T. has checked me they did their own math. That being said before I started using DDL I also kept a recap. No reason to use it after using DDL. Nothing wrong with keeping a recap. Biggest comment I got from D.O.T. was how professional my logbook looked. Be it loose leaf or a print-out by DDL. All my lines were drawn with a straight edge and the words were neatly printed. kc0iv |
Most states req you to have a certain # of pages in your log book. It can be a ticket even if you have all of them but have voided to many of them out.

It's funny. At USX ( back in 05 anyway ) they gave you a log book but told you that it was OK to take the staples out and run "loose leaf". I'm like , yea, that ought to impress the DOT guy.

At Henderson they actually gove you a BInder and the loose leaf sheets and go here is your log book. Now I never fugded or strecthed the logbook at all but it was nice when I did make a mistake and I did everynow and then to be able to just open the clamp and pull out the bad page then go on.
