It has nothing to do with the union. I've sat around plenty of warehouses that were non-union as well. The reason these places get away with having you guys sit around all the livelong day is because you agree to do so for peanuts. Then you bury all the wasted time in the logbook on lines 1 + 2.

There's little incentive for any warehouse to get you loaded/unloaded in a jiffy. Why should they? Everyone inside is on the clock, so they're not gonna hurry up on your account. I ran a forklift at a warehouse for awhile and if an OTR driver showed up at 3:00 PM, you can bet your bottom dollar he was gonna sit there until 5:00 PM. Why? Because he gave us 2 hours for free and at 5:00 PM we clocked in our 8 hours and went home.

LTL and local jobs are a different ballgame. If a warehouse dicks around like that than we leave. Maybe come back later if we have time but probably not. When they call up the next day bitching and complaining why their stuff wasn't shipped, we tell em we were there but your guys on the dock were goofing off and couldn't get us loaded. Like magic, the next time we show up the pallets get loaded onto the truck at MACH 5! Union or no!

You can be the nicest, most respectful driver saying "Sir and Ma'am", have the sharpest-looking rooster cruiser, walk in there with pressed shirt and pants and actually take a shower and guess what? NOBODY CARES! And as long as you're willing to sit around for free, NOBODY EVER WILL!

You need to get some new material...........lol

I'll say this one good thing that happen to me in Falls River Ma.

I just emptied out and was heading back to the interstate. I had to make a left turn. I was waiting for these 2 vehicles go by, but wait they both stopped and they both waved for me to make a left turn infront of them. They had the right away, but gave it to me. Would someone do that in Atlanta? Heck No!

I don't know about you, but for me the talk on the CB is worse just because I can understand it. I truly can't understand the southern accent on the CB. And it has nothing to do against the south, but I really just can't understand it. Of course most don't understand me either with my pahk the cah and all.

As for Fall River, I had a delivery there not too long ago, man that place is not made for 53' trailers. But overall that's not a nice place. It's changed a lot. Use to be all Portaguese, but like I said it's changed a lot.

As for the good things, I can get a good D'Angelo's sandwich just about anywhere in New England and I can get a Dunkin Donuts Iced Coffee easily which I like to drink every day. Blew my mind as a matter of fact when I found a Dunkin Donuts in El Paso last week.

Merrick, yeah, that been back in the late 90's since That happen things like that do change.. I either carried either Jail Cells to a new Jail they were building, or Port a Potties.. These were Used Port a Potties, came from the Charlette Race Track. Funny though, I hauled them there at the beginning of the Nascar Season, then hauled them out of there afterwards.

I can't understand the Southern accent either. I have a hard time with most people who can't speak proper English. In school we were all taught the same vowels and how to pronounce them but it seems people have come up with there own language.

I asked for 3 pieces of chicken the other day and the woman asked if I wanted thighs but she was saying eye's. I asked 4 times for her to repeat herself and finally had her write on a piece of paper what she was saying.

It has nothing to do with an accent, every president from the south can speak correctly, Martin Luther King could, Jessie Jackson could. WTF, why does half the country come up with there own language? English is English and taught the same in every single state. The is pronounced the, not duh.

I was in a Wendy's in the south once and had to get the manager to take my order. I have no f%&^ing idea what language the person was speaking.

We can really turn it on when we get the feeling are dealing with some snot-nosed arrogant Yankee who walks in with the attitude they own the place and we're too polite to just bitch-slap them, can't we?

(just kidding Steve)

I remember years ago when I was living in Claremont, NH my folks came up for a visit and my now ex-wife and I took them to Newicks up in West Leb for some seafood.

It was summer and there was a HUGE line of folks waiting to get in so a waitress was out taking drink orders while we waited.

Here's the conversation...

Waitress: Would you folks like something to drink while you wait?
Dad: No ma'am, we just want to find the end of the line.

Waitress: Uh, excuse me???
Dad: The end of the line?

Waitress: What lion are you talking about, we don't have a lion...!
Dad: WHAT I WANT TO KNOW IS...HOW THE HELL DO WE GET IN THIS DAMN PLACE!!!

Still cracks me up every time I think about it.

And I didn't even tell you about the orange juice he got instead of oysters.

Don't Worry The Southern People can not understand the Northern People either. Before you read on, it maybe offending so Accept my apology before hand, but I'm just making a point.

I was station up in Boston, NYC and also in New Hampshire. Boston it sounds like your saying "Pak yor Cer on the Pir.."? What in the same hill is that? Why not just say Park your Car on the Pier. Or they sound to be talking through their Nose. I never heard English as I heard up in New England.. But I guess you first have to know English before you can understand it.

But you do not hear the southerners complaining alot, we understand you guys do not know any better....

So to go along with the thread, the North East you have to understand the partial words being used. If not you'll get lost.

Those are not accents that you are referring to. Those are mis pronounced words, bad grammar and non existent words. I'm not complaining about accents but the inability to speak the English language and making up words that do not exist anywhere in the dictionary and then expect people to understand what your talking about.

coastie 05-18-2007 12:46 AM

Same thing I was talking about Steve. Plain and simple. Southerners has a trange to the language, your northerns, everyone speaks like I discribed up there. Leave out a letter or something. and they sound as they are talking through their nose, not the mouth.

Face it, if you want to bad mouth one area, they can do the same about your part of the world. Calif has it's own language, the mid West has theirs. So why does everyone want to Slam the South? Were are not Idiots. Well Most of us are not.

Guess you Been watching to much of the Cable Guy, Get er Done...
