Tanker accident

I'm a local hazmat driver, been lurking here for awhile thinking about OTR. Early Sunday morning a tanker near Oakland crashed. Thought you guys(and gals) would find these pictures of interest.

I saw it yesteday on the news. I know that stretch of road very well and its going to create a traffic mess that hasnt been seen since part of the bay bridge and the cypress structure collapsed after the Loma Prieta quake. The only difference is that there were many days after the quake before people started returning to work so the planning for the use of additional public transportation was in place.

This isnt the case here because not only do you have the morning commute you also have people returning from Tahoe as well which means the approaches to the GG Bridge are going to be backed up big time.

After the EarthQuake traffice was bad, I'm glad I am not there now.

I'm waiting for the comments from the 9/11 wonks about fire not melting steel and how this had to be an "inside job" and was done with explosion.

I heard on the news this morning, that the driver survived and was relatively unscathed. Amazing. Most of the time the driver is killed in one of these type of accidents.

It certainly is amazing that the driver was able to escape without injury. That was one hot fire. The melting point for steel is 2500 deg. F

this was not done by a tanker. it was not an explosion. but an implosion. it was a conspiracy. bush planned this. now the cat's outta the bag.

Slow Down!

I think this is a good posting for the newbie section. This driver was reported to be going too fast for conditions. (The curve).

Quote:

A preliminary investigation indicated he may have been speeding on the curving road, Cross said. Mosqueda was being treated in a hospital for burns Sunday; the hospital would not transfer media calls to his room.

Now the lack of safety in this case did not result in a little fender bender ... but a catastrophe ...

Quote:

Witnesses reported flames rising up to 200 feet into the air. Heat exceeded 2,750 degrees and caused the steel beams holding up the interchange from eastbound I-80 to eastbound Interstate 580 above to buckle and bolts holding the structure together to melt, leading to the collapse, California Department of Transportation director Will Kempton said.
This morning's estimate to repair the ramp is "tens of millions of dollars."

Now ... if I asked Jim to play mumbly-peg with flaming knifes and 5 gallon cans with gasoline he more than likely would reply that is nuts .. but he was careless with 8,700 gallons of the stuff.

Was the extra 5 or 10 mph worth it? You all be safe out there ...

you can go around a curve too slow as many times you want. but you'll only go around a curve too fast only once!!! and here is the proof!!!!

That should be obvious!! Why do you think the "driver" was spirited away to a so-called hospital before he could talk to the cops or the media??
