Returning to Drive a big rig
 
Hello All,

Being new to this site I just would like to say hello and what a great help this forum has been getting me back up to speed after being out of the buisness for 10 yrs!

Over the last several weeks I have researched several companies and have narrowed them down to 6. My first choice would be to work for a flatbed company which includes TMC,Swift and Melton, the other's are Van's which are Roehl,CFI and Schneider.

After reading many of the post's here on these 6 companies they all seem to have there own pro's & con's, which makes an informed decision a bit difficult. I have experience pulling both van and flatbed albeit 10 yrs ago,but like I said I would rather pull a flatbed because I enjoyed it alot! I'm from the Northeast and was wondering, of the above companies,which might be a good fit. Having been in the buisness before, I know what to expect as far as some of the b.s. that goes on. What I don't want to do, is go threw several companies to find one that I like! So, any info & input wolud be a great help!

All though I have not worked for any of the companies listed I have heard a lot of good things about TMC and CFI.

Roehl also runs flatbeds, though their flatbed and van hiring areas are somewhat different.

The thing about trying to find the right company is that what works well for one may not work for another.

IMHO finding a trucking company to work for that you will "enjoy" is like finding a person to marry that will be with you for a life time. It really comes down to finding the one whose crap you can put up with and who can in return put up with yours. :wink:

I saw some posts on here from flatbedfred who works for TMC about some nice runs, home during the week and weekend that he said paid real good. Might want to search his threads or PM him. BUt he is a driver / wanna be recruiter so get it in writing, just kidding, he really just wants the recruiting bonus, LOL It's worth checking in to.

Move out of the Northeast! Go to the west coast and check out Combined Transport! Easiest skateboard job I ever heard of!

They DO hire from some areas in the east, though. But, I doubt it includes the N.E.

Thank you all for your replies! I'm going to focus on TMC & CFI with TMC being my 1st choice, it appears that TMC is going to start a N.E. division,maybe I will get lucky and get on this run.

As far as moving out of the N.E. who else is going to run up here! Seems that the N.E. is a place alot of drivers are scared to death to run. :lol: Thanks again for your input, I'll chime back in to let you know how I made out.

I can not speak about others, but Scared of going not really, just not much loads coming out.

I had Guy in a PU and a Lady in a Station Wagon once stop and allow me to make a left turn when they had the right away. Nobody in Atlanta would do that..

Plus I was able to see some of my stumping grounds while I was in the Service. 3/4 of the time I was Stationed up in N.E.

Didn't mean to offend anybody,just appears that alot of drivers don't want to run up this way. I see your point of not alot of freight coming out of the N.E. except for NYC & NJ.
