Class A Driver Wants To Return To Truck Driving
 

I need help,My wife wants to go back to truck driving. She has her CDL but it has been five years since she has drove. The companys she has talked to said she would have too go back through a school since she has'nt driven in awhile. These schools are about getting your CDL and offer nothing for her situation. Does anyone have any imput that would help?

Except the ability to hire on with a company.

Not to mention:

A chance to shake off some of the rust, becoming knowledgeable about all the changes that have happened in the last 5 years, etc.


Look at it this way too. Lets say you were going in for a heart transplant and were given the choice of 2 surgeons. Both were experienced, but neither of them had done a surgery for the past 5 years. Surgeon A went back through school, got brought up to speed on all the advances, had assisted in a few procedures, etc and sugeon B figured he was good to go and simply returned to the operating room.

Now who do you want to operate on you?

I was in this same situation and had to go back to the school. Glad I did. You'd be surprised how much you forget.
If you can pay for the school yourself go that route though, you two will be in a much better situation than being an indentured servant to a trucking company.

You might try a local job first... they usually want to train you for 30 days, anyways, and you can add that to your experiece. It also does away with the five year gap, and you get to keep the experience with you for the next job. :D

Transport america has there own school that last 6 days in the yard then they go out with a trainer for up to 21 days then they are ready to go check them out

check with the school she got her CDL at sometimes they offer a refresher course and some companies will accept that
