One more week of tech school left
I've only got one more week of tech. school left after this week, and only one more time of getting out on the road, and to be quite honest, I'm not so sure I can pass. Every time I've been out on the road, I've been waaay too nervous. I'll be so nervous that it's hard to keep the truck going straight in my lane (yet in my personal pickup or the dumptruck I drive for the city I can keep it straight with one hand on the wheel and not even think about it). Maybe it's just harder to keep a tractor-trailer on the road, but it could also be just me... :?:
Also, I still have a little problem shifting. The other night I was doing fine. But last night I didn't so as well. I can get it into gear, upshifting and downshifting, but not without snubbing the gear and also having to rev the engine up some because I missed the first time (resulting in a coast longer than the length of the truck.) And every time we approach a traffic light and the instuctor says "Alright, turn right Doug", I get filled with dread because it's hell making those turns, having to watch the trailer and making sure it doesn't run up on the curb (or run up on something worse) Has anyone ever had there driving test coming up in about a couple of weeks, and weren't so sure they were going to pass it, but ended up doing great at the last minute? (Note: The reason I'm having trouble shifting could be because the transmissions in the trucks we use are worn out from students in the past who would sit there and continually try to grind and force it into gear, so if I get out on the road in another truck maybe it won't be so bad...) |
I can relate to your situation. Experience will work out those issues. Just try and relax the best you can and focus on the prize and all the reasons you are doing what your doing. Dont dwell on negative thoughts. I know its easier said than done...but, do your best. I have found that when we focus on the negative, we are worring about things that more than likely wont happen and in the end you say something like "why was I so worried?" :)
Be safe and good luck! |
I think those last minute pre-test jitters are pretty common..........gotta find a way to relax, breath you know you can do it! You'll do just fine and be able to post about it and cheer someone else through it too :)
Coltsfan is right on .............. what we stress about is on our minds, let yourself be nervous too much isn't good....you've worked this far and studied this hard there's alot more to come with experience but right now you know you can do this (just might have to keep telling yourself that get it drilled in your head you can do this) Wishing you the best :) |
