DMV question
 

I have had a CDL Class A for the past 2 1/2 years. I wish to get doubles & triples endoresement which I know I have to go and take the test at the DMV for, my question is that once I pass the test, do I lose my license for a few weeks? it is to my understanding that you cannot have more than 1 license in your posession, and you need a new license mailed to you. So I'd basically be out of work for 3-4 weeks while waiting on a new license to be mailed to me with the new endorsement. is this true? Can they not give me the new license right at the DMV?

They will give you a temporary License, until your new one arrives in the mail.

A temporary license? Can I get some more info? Is it a photo ID? What's different about it from a real license?

Glasman is talking about the paper copy of your license. They give you that so you will atleast be able to show something while you are waiting for your license that is being mailed to ya. Here in Texas, they take your expired license, and cut the bottom half off, just below the picture. That way, you still have the picture I.D, along with your "temporary"(paper copy)license. Once you get your new license that is mailed to you, you throw away the old license, and the temporary license.

What state are you in?

Here in Illinois you pass your tests and they take you mug shot, you waint about 5 min and you have your liscence.

Why don't you call the DMV and ask them these questions.

Same thing for MO. About 5-10 min. walk out with your new license.

In Washington your temporary license has your picture on it, but it's a paper temporary license. Just to clear that up.
