I've been around my company going on 4 years now, most of that time has been spent hauling sod, not too bad of a gig, i work about 55 hours a week, off weekends, and work for pretty laid back people. I know there are better things out there for me, but for now, it's a paycheck, and not a bad one at that :D

I find doubles easier than a 53. There's some basics to learn but its not that hard. Dont get lost cause backing is usually not an option. Some drivers have learned to back with some degree of control but its illegal anyway and it takes years to master. But you can turn around in tighter areas. You have watch your hooks and drops, develop an order and stick to it, avoid distractions till your done hooking and if your arent sure about it stop and double check. Weather-now thats where you earn your money-snow and ice! Other than that its not any harder than a long box. :)

I was with first company 4 and a half years. Would still be there if he hadn't gone bankrupt. Was unemployed for two days then went to work for his cousin and that have been here since August of 1996. Home every night and a laid back atmosphere are the biggest draws, even though I would like to get back out on the road and see the sights before I am done.

I was OTR for a local beer distributor for 13 1/2 years. Then, Anheuser Busch switched to core carriers in 1998 and distributor-owned rigs were not allowed to pick up loads.

I have been with my present employer 4 1/2 years, and stay for the working conditions.

Been with mine 1 1/2 years. I made 57K last year.
I haul new furniture out and God-knows-what back.
I handle a lot of furniture. But I'm home once during the week and every weekend.
Most of the time I like it. But I only have to do it until 2010. Then I retire for the last time.

If I was a lot younger I'd buy my own rig. But I'm not. So I ain't. :lol:
