You make 1/3 of revenue, get bouncd about the cab of the truck, and get muddy when it rains.
anything else?

I drive dumptrucks! I love it. They do always usually ride very rough when empty, not to bad when loaded though.

We do get into some very rough offroad jobsites though too. I have been places where you can't get out of second gear, or else your head would be hitting the roof, the truck will bounce so hard on the bumps.

You get to see alot of different jobsites and get really good at shifting and backing. Sometime we go through mud that is a foot deep, or we sometimes sink in over a foot, and that takes alot of power, so u gotta know what gear to be in, or else you will stall out. Then it's really hard to get moving again.

We run all tri-axle dumps around here, with one lift axle, you always have to remember to lift the axle before every turn.

It takes a good driver to run a dump truck, it's not as easy as some highway drivers think it is!

the nice thing is you drop your load of dirt or rock and go. dont have to bother with those a--- holes at the ware houses and you dont have to load or unload just drop and go.

You also get to sit at home all winter no work, unless you get to haul some salt, which will pay less cause salt hauling doesn't pay well.

Dump Trucking is alot like "regular" trucking. Everybody does something a little bit different.

I for one NEVER go into the mud. The roughest road I drive on is gravel in a quarry.

I work year round without slowing down. Sure the profit margin is better in the summer but I am still doing just fine in the winter.

Round my parts hauling Salt pays really well.

For the most part you will never see a log book in a dump truck. Many dump trucks are exempted from log book requirements. You will however drive very long hours as a result.

You never have to wait for an appointment time to unload but when you do unload you are hoisting your load up way high in the air and it does not take much to turn it over.

Running dumpers can be challenging, it can be an easy day -depends on where you're going, and what the terrain is like at said place. Sometimes your dump location will be easier to find a solid, level area to dump at, and sometimes you'll have to search alot more. It can certainly put knots in the stomachs of even seasoned dumpers at times. Just be careful, and use your head no matter what the situation is.

I run tractor trailer dumps, and tri-axles. For us it just depends on what the job at hand calls for -my company has both types. I prefer tractor trailer dumps personally -they do ride alot better.

Some tri-axles wil beat you up pretty bad empty, and some aren't as bad. The worst I have ever sat in was a DM Mack, and one of the best is one of the new Volvo VHD's in terms of comfort. I will say however that the Mack Granites are among the, if not THE best all around tri-axle I have ran -I prefer the Granite tractor to any of the rest I have tried when it comes to pulling a dump trailer. But, that's just me. Most of our tractors have 427's and 13 spds -we have a some 18's aswell. Our tri-axles range from 400-450 horse engines and all have 8LL transmissions.
