JB Hunt Questions

Hi all,

My fiancee has been driving with a local company in our home state of Massachusetts (8 states, home daily) for 7 months since he got his license. He's been courted by JB Hunt and is thinking about going to their Orientation next month because the miles and pay just aren't there (if he brings home $350 it is a good week, and he made that much as a gas jockey before he got his CDL!). He's been promised $2500 miles per week at .37 per mile, plus this that and the other thing. Some of the posts I've been reading on JB Hunt, though, make me distinctly nervous, especially the ones where hopeful orientees show up for training and get shown the door! They did already fax him the release form to check his criminal history and driving record, though, so I am hoping that means there will be no "surprises" at Orientation.

But I'm wondering...can the recruiter be trusted, and will they send him something in writing stating that he has been cleared for takeoff in terms of DVR and criminal check? I would hope that the company understands that in order to attend orientation he will have quit his job and made a commitment to them...I hate to think of them waiting till he gets down there to tell him, sorry, you don't qualify.

Is there anything we can do to make sure (as much as it is possible to do so) that they've already checked him out?

Thanks,

The Cave Man's girl

The main reasons people are kicked out of orientation are Criminal Record, Drug Test, Driving Test, and Health Reasons.
He knows his Criminal record or lack of one.
He knows if he can pass a drug test.
The driving test isnt that hard and wouldnt ever be a problem for an exp driver.
He should know if his blood pressure is high or has any other health issues.
In otherwords, most drivers have a feeling or know that they will probably have problems in orientation before they go.
Occasionally drivers will be kicked out because almost every one of his past jobs gave him horrible references.

Other Reasons Ive had drivers kicked out.
A driver thought it was ok to drink a beer during orientation
I had a lady just last week bragging that she could pass a drug test now, but no way she could pass it a year ago.....shes gone
I had a driver show up to orientation with a broken arm.
I had a driver show up to orientation with a pit bull and he told them I said having pets was ok. (lol...I never said anything of the sort).

Im not his recruiter, but if you think there is something on his record that might hurt him. Shoot me a PM and I will tell you what i think and just keep it between you and me.

I just posted a thread about the recruiters at jb hunt, and if u havent read it, u should. Now I believe that jb hunt is a great company to work for, and definetly will be recieving allot more income that what u are experiencing with ur husbands current cdl job. U see I didnt get the job at jb hunt because of a missdeamenor that I told the recriuter about, he even asked his manager and they said come on down. Now what ur husband needs to do is get the release form faxed to him, sign it and fax it back. Then do what i didnt do...WAIT for everything to clear, continue driving for his current company, untill they call, and tell u that everything is good to go on his background check and ect. I wish I'd done it like that but I actually feel good that Ive gone threw the process and can help someone out. Best of luck

JB Hunt conracted me again today.

I asked if all verification was done. The recruiter told me he didn't know.
I was transferred to another guy that said, yes, everything was verified.

Assuming that "get it in writing" is advice with exact instructions and not just a saying I'm wondering if there is some specific document to ask for, or are you talking about a "pre-hire" letter?

I'm just a wannabe trying to learn.

TIA
Dan

Because we like talking to you so much.

Just playing with you. The reason we keep calling is because you are in our company database and more than likely every few days the computer dials you. You more than likely say something like "Is this JB hunt again? I told you all to stop calling" and then you hang up. Your name and phone number then disappears from our computer screen and we recruiters have no way to remove you. Once again, THE ONLY WAY TO BE REMOVED IS TO ASK ME NICELY, I will then put you on hold, bring this nice lady on the phone with us, she will ask you your number, and then she will take you out of our calling database. Then usually a few months later you will fill out something online, or perhaps a buddy of yours will give us your phone number as a refferal and you will be back in our system again. When this happens....REPEAT the steps outlined in the first part of the post.
A few more things that probably need to be said.
1. I am just a recruiter, I dont create company policy. So telling me that we should have a different way of removing people from the call list doesnt really help nor will it change anything.
2. Although Im paid pretty well to call you and bother you everyday, I really dont like wasting my time calling people who dont want a job. So Im happy to remove you.
3. I might ask you why you want to be removed. Personally, phone calls dont bother me. We might call you 500 times and call number 501, I might have the perfect job for you. We have more dedicated driving jobs than any other trucking company. I have different jobs open everyday. That next call might be the day you got really pissed at your work or finally tired of OTR, and I might have a local job paying 20 bucks an hour, home every night and off every weekend. This happens all the time. I have hired 100s of drivers who start out cussing me out because we call so much and I literally have to tell them to be quiet and listen for a minute because I have something that just opened that he has never heard before.

LOL!!! Time for a simple system/Software upgrade! Those are trackable events (name/phone matching). Especially if the system uses SSANs as your prime key (SSANs do NOT change when one relocates). Ok, I am going techie here. 8)

Bottom Line: I am sure JBH (Any carrier) does not mind calling (harrassing) DEAD leads on the odd chance there is a change of heart.
