ticket question

in oregon yesterday I got a ticket because the tax certicate for my trucj was expired. could this count against my CDL somehow? thanks.

It is a non-moving violation so it will not show up on your lisc.

Ticket Question

Sounds like you deserved it. You're telling us you don't know the admin status of your truck? What other tax documents like IFTA, cab cards, registration (truck/trailer), etc., aren't up to date? Your Oregon ticket could've been avoided if you would've told the counter person at the Oregon POE you needed a new tax certificate. BOL

it turns out ALL my permits are expired. if they went over the need to check your permits at swft driving school I don't recall it, nor did my mentor go over it with me.
honestly, I would think that this type of thing would be handled via the qualcom, a message or something saying 'such and such permit is about to expire'. oh we'll, experience is the best teacher and in my case the most expensive !

if they went over pre trips then they covered it! part of making sure the truck is safe and legal for the road.

You learned a good lesson the hard way.

Try to get in the habit of checking all your permits at the start of every month, and make a list of any permits that will expire within the next 30 days then get to work getting them updated. While most permits expire either in June or December there are a few oddballs that expire at other times.

I know this is part of the drivers responsibility, but doesn't the company keep records for the trucks in their fleet.

one things for sure, Swift sure don't! :P

and i'm not saying Swift trucking school didn't mention permits, I honestly can't remember. it quite possibly was mentioned in class. but it certainly wasn't emphasised. and my trainer was a good guy and taught me a lot, but nobodies perfect. heck, if my small misfortune can save some of you other noobs some cash and grief then it's almost worth it.
