I am sorry to everyone who misunderstood me. If you are a driver making 30,000 a year an you do not realize you could be making more then that is too bad. I meant no disrespect to Brown, I like a couple buster brown driver from ohio and pa. I have just never understood what it benefits anybody to talk what each other makes, because we could work for the same company and not make the same money, just the way it is. Sorry if i offended anybody.

hello there driverboy, i'm guessing you drive for daimler chrysler, i know a few guys that work there and they are really happy. i'm guessing that company cause they are all day cabs and are everywhere in michigan and ohio turnpike. and i believe what you make. i just don't understand why so many are questioning you when they should have an open mind and know theres more money to be made in this industry, and that we are not limited to 50-60 grand as a company driver. i guess most people on this board are drivers from the big companies and spend months on the road busting their ass for a decent check and try to make a grand a week and to see someone making over 2k a week is a fairytale. i would post what i make but am afraid of getting attacked sooooo forget it. yes this is the internet, and people can lie, but i see it like this, this is a truckers forum with truckers on it. sure alot of truckers BS but those ones that do, are not smart enough to use a computer so they are not here. at least i think

Guys, I need it straight. Who can I go with and make near 50k first year, or is that impossible. Reason I ask is that im in sales and I make around 50k a year but want to make a career change. Sales are good for me in the winter but starve me in the summer. At very leased I need to make 44k to cover bills. Anyone know?

It comes down to quality of life, not just the numbers on your pay stub. |

If I were a total $ whore and signed up for an out of town P&D (lots of OT) route and every Sat. line haul I could I probable could have broken $50k last year. If I wanted to team drive to Fresno and back nightly from Reno I could be grossing $1200-1400 weekly. But I have modest wants and would rather enjoy my time off. The only time I ever come in on a Sat is to be a "rescue" driver for our line guys who ran out of hrs coming home. If you can stand it look at teaming. Especially for a noob it can boost your earnings 20-45% or more. My trainer and his wife were clearing $3k per week running team working for an O/O and getting a % of the load What do you sell? You could split your time, a lot more freight moves in the summer. It could work best if you could find a good team partner. You should have 6 months expenses in the bank before you jump in. Good luck. |
I sell area rugs in scottsdale Arizona. Winter is good because all the snowbirds are here spending money. Summertimes too hot so they move back to their other cities. Therfor I want to get into trucking within the next couple of months.
I have a mortgage and alot of bills, probley 3600.00 a month to stay afloat. I have my house on the market and once that sells my money situation will be a bit better. That is why I need to find the best paying starter company out there. Also, I've been with my company for seven years. It seems that there is alot of job jumping in the trucking industry. I would like to try and avoid that, if possible. Anyother sugestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |
At 3600.00 a month to stay a float you will need to run hard and take very minimal home time.

Youre going to have a difficult time if you need money right away. Starter/training companies pay 35-45k a year. These good jobs go to guys with experience and even then they have to wait for seniority and pay raises. Figure a couple years to get the experience and another couple years to get A LITTLE seniority at a good outfit. You can get to 50-60 in OTR after a year if you look around. If you want local AND 50-60 it takes a little longer because of the seniority issue. If you need 70k+ you need alot of seniority (5-10yrs) at a local job.
