Which GPS recievers are you using?
 

I picked up a Garmin Nuvi 660 and I'm finding it to be an essential part of my driving these days, as I'm finding it very useful.
Not only for the mapping and text/voice support, but it also holds all kinds of photo's of the family, video's if I wish to put them on, but being Bluetooth capable, it also makes my cell phone a hands free device now as well.
I just added a 2 GB SD memory card...which now is chalked full of MP3's to listen to on the road.
I bought an FM transmitter off Ebay for a few $$, and it allows the MP3 songs to play through the vehicle speakers as well.

Technology it seems, is going to make trucking at least a little nicer for those on the road!

What kind of GPS receivers are the most popular in use these days? Oh...I especially chose this Garmin 660 for it's size, as I can easily pop it in my pocket when I leave my truck.

I have the same model in my truck and if it broke today I would buy another one in a second!!!

The same one that I have been using for the last eight years of driving. A (company provided)cell phone and a truckers atlas :D

Oh crap, now I'm freaked out. I didn't understand most of those words but they sound really scary.

I use 2 programs on my laptop - CoPilot Truck 9 and Microsoft Streets & Trips 2007. I only use S & T now for time planning and for locating addresses that CoPilot doesn't have. It's been great so far, but I won't rely on either of them 100% (I always verify my route with the atlas if I'm going through an area I don't know).

If anyone wants a GPS system but doesn't want to pay big money for it, check out FINEDRIVE 400. Mine was $199 after $100 rebate. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles like the other ones but I use it along with Streets & Trips and I sure makes life much easier. Especially finding streets when it's dark or when dealing with bad weather. You don't have to worry about reading little street signs.

I had planned on getting a nicer unit but made the mistake of telling the wife I was thinking about getting one. Well along comes Christmas and I end up with the economy model.

Even with this being a so so model, I will NEVER drive without one again. The greatest tool out there for drivers.

I haven't taken out the atlas for about a month now.

I have an HP iPAQ PDA (with integrated GPS) and I use Mapopolis on that. It's mounted on my dash and serves as a Heads up display. Does voice prompts, turn-by-turn and auto-reroutes.

I pick up its GPS data via Bluetooth on my notebook and run CoPilot there.

Instead of using an Atlas, I'll drill down into CoPilot, or look at a map service on the 'net.

:? GPS? I have had no problem planning my route and getting to shippers and recvrs using just the simplest of tools. If you can't read a map and use a compass to start with, well, I hope your gpssy has the best directions. really the motor carriers atlas and local maps and a small compas will work everytime even if you ain't got no power. learn the basic tools first. only reason they been around so long is they work.
