I understand your sense of frustration, but you are not being very objective in your grumbling here!! There ARE, in fact, some very valid reasons for them confiscating your banana and your orange.
Recent investigations by Canadian Intelligence Officials have revealed very concrete evidence that drug dealers have been know to eat both bananas and oranges, and other fruits as well. This enforcement crackdown on fruit smuggling is an effort to cut off the drug dealers supply line of fruit, and drive them out of the country. Consider yourself very lucky that you are not locked away is some hell-hole jail cell!! |
ROFLOL, good point, i remember reading at 1 point in time the FDA, tried saying Vitamins are technically drugs!!!!
im thinking next time im going to bring a lunch with me ill throw it in the trailer and have a slip written lol i could picture it now, (Customs: what ya hauling me: my lunch: customs: lets see the bill of lading me : hands over the bill Customs: what is this joke??? all thats on here is 1 banana, 1 orange and a balogne sandwich! |
Profitt you didn't say what Customs it was. Or did I miss something. I've had problems coming into the States before with food. Wouldn't let me bring in grapes, tomatoes or cold cut meats that I had in my fridge of my sleeper. The food I told them was just for my consumption, but they said they didn't care. Told me it couldn't come into the States. They took it away from me. Nothing much I could really do about it. I was so P'Oed. Drive safe everyone. :)

This isn't anything new.
If you cross the border regularly, you should know this. |

Doesn't have to just be a border crossing-CA and AZ will do the same thing. I pass back and forth through CA and AZ ports of entry several times every week! IF the guy asks me for anything but my permits, he asks me what I'm hauling. I say, "Produce." [ A whole trailer full!] That's about ALL that GETs hauled over those borders! And not ONCE have they confiscated a single orange, let alone 45,000 lbs worth! |

Cali is a strange state.. tho the drivers (crazy tho they are) are polite to trucks and typically let you over when u signal. Now Phoenix drivers.. they try to fit under ur trailer. Morons.... |
When I first started traveling to the left coast in the 1970's we used to have to go through check points in Arizona and New Mexico, I believe. It might have just been crossing from New Mexico into Arizona. Hey, it has been more than 30 years ago. Everyone had to stop, including 4 wheelers. They wanted to know about plants and anything else you might be taking across the border. They had a really bad problem with some sort of fly or bug back then. They didn't want to take any chances that people would take something across the state line which could destroy crops.

they still do that looking for illegals

The reason oranges are allowed from Mexico may be because Mexico has an agreement where they will not import oranges from Asia. Canada imports oranges from Asia, so there is a chance there will be very dangerous(to oranges) bugs on those oranges. That's why Canada is targeted.
