Container hauling

Can anyone tell me which companies out there primarily haul containers ? What kind of weekly miles can one expect in this type of work ? Any idea of what the pay is like ? Any such companies out of the PA area, or the midwest / south / southeast but who haul to PA as well ?

They haul out of the yard on RT 48 just below Monroeville. If you are familiar with thta area, take a drive by it and see what companies are going in and out. I know crete is in there alot too.

I'll leave it to others as to who pulls out of the PA area.

As far as mileage it was my experence most runs are normally less than 300 miles. Alot depends on who you are with. It's pretty hard to get more than one run per day. In my case I had many account where I could make a short second run. Without getting out the mileage sheets I'd say I ran around 1200 miles per week.

Normally you pickup/deliver to rail yards. Very seldom will you make overnight trip so there is little chance of pulling containers from one area to another. In my 3 plus years of pulling containers I only had to go to another area one time ( because the pickup missed the train and I raced the train to Chicago).

I understand on the coast things are a little different.

As far as pay that will depend on what the local area pays. In the KC area I made around $1000 gross. We were paid on a modified percentage rate. Certain customers got a cheaper rate than others. Containers are a very competitive which causes rates to be low.

One last thing I found is you put in a pretty long day. Up by 3:00am and home around 6:00pm.

Graymist if you are speaking to me I'm now retired. Been that way for about 1-1/2 years.

When I was pulling containers I drove for a company that was leased to MO-CAN in the KC area.

It helps when you ask a question if you you quote or at lest let people know who the question is for.
